Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Angels, Cubs and Red Sox are among the teams showing interest in Kevin Millwood.

Millwood opted out of his minor league contract with the Yankees earlier this month in search of a major league deal. The veteran right-hander went 4-16 with a 5.10 ERA in 31 starts for the Orioles last season, so he's really in no position to make any demands. He'll likely have to prove himself in the minors before finding his way back to the major leagues.

Unless the organization has a serious lack of optimism with Wells's recovery, this seems redundant with Doug Davis already around. Also, I would rather keep trotting Coleman out there and hope he figures it out than go down this road.

Hopefully this is just a look to see what Millwood's got just in case he's needed later on - if, for instance, Cashner is out for a while and Davis goes ineffective or Wells reaggravates his injury or something.

One wonders if the Red Sox think/hope he's ready to start in the majors immediately. Right now, Alfredo Aceves and Tim Wakefield are their scheduled starters for Saturday and Sunday.

I second this. Based purely off pitching matchups, the Cubs could definitely win two out of three this weekend. Milwood would give the Red Sox an immediate boost. Aceves doesn't have much starting experience and Wakefield has given up a ton of hits and runs this season.
