yeah the cubs look ok "on paper" because they have a lot of names like pena, ramirez and soriano who used to be really good, but now they're not. the cubs just aren't a good team, regardless of how effective the manager is. and you're kidding yourself if you think that mental errors lead back to the manager. this isn't little league; if your team is just throwing the ball around aimlessly then it's probably because the players are dumb, not that their manager for like 3 months isn't paying attention to fundamentals.

this team is kind of like a layperson of just above average knowledge of baseball via mainstream media outlets drafting a fantasy team then wondering why carlos pena is no more valuable than billy butler. this organization has long overvalued their guys, and held an impossible faith that at some point it's all going to click, having no clue as to why it never does while it is painfully obvious to most of the outside world that there is no clicking device whatsoever.

No reason why Quade should be the manager of this team tomorrow morning.

If only things went the way they should....

I totally agree...why wasnt Jeff Baker used to pinch hit for dewitt when dusty brought in bray?

why is every game a cluster%uck defensively and when we get runners on base?

why does he make about 75% of the pitching moves he does?

i dont think ive ever seen anyone worse....he does nothing good...players are not held accountable for anything

They should be taking infield, learning how to bunt and hit behind runners, and learning the general fundamentals of the game every single day for 2-4 hours before games and on days off

What would be the point of firing Quade during a year like this? Just let him shepherd this monstrosity to its conclusion.

because accountability has to start somewhere and there hasnt been any in this organization in a long time

That's just silly. Firing him after the season when he's still signed for another year pretty much sends the same message.

oh ok so you want the manager to treat his bad team largely composed of multi-millionaire veterans and treat them like a little league team. if you want everyone to hate the manager i suppose that's a great idea.

hey aramis ramirez i know you've been playing baseball for 25 years, but how about reporting to the ballpark at 9 a.m. before day games to spend 3 hours fielding grounders? after the game quade will take you out for an ice cream. Edited by TruffleShuffle

im glad that between the bulls playoff run and the exceedingly low expectations of the cubs this year have distanced myself from caring, because that last 2 games would have infuriated a previous years' 'me'

give up 7 runs and lose and not a single one is earned? really? really.

Jim Riggleman did this with great success at the major league level last year not little league

I never knew you could fix deteriorating baseball skills with good ol' gritty fundamentals.

tonights game had nothing to do w/ deteriorating skills

Pretty sure the Reds taking the lead had a lot to do with a busted ass reliever on the mound making a bad decision and a fading 3B who can't do much about it.

if you consider 93 losses to be "great success" then you should be thrilled with quade.

YES! Reach for the sky, Cubs! You too can finish 69-93!

also, please provide me a link to an article saying that riggs has his players come in every day of the baseball season for "taking infield, learning how to bunt and hit behind runners, and learning the general fundamentals of the game"

That could not be more wrong and everyone that knows baseball at all knows it

that's nice. maybe all the time they spent learning how to make a few less errors would have been better served learning how to get on base and get major league hitters out, considering that they lost 93 games.

Washington has one fewer errors than the Cubs.

Oh yeah, if we're looking at errors only...

Last year the Cubs were the third worst fielding team in the majors. This year they are pretty much dead on average (25 errors, 24 is the average & median).

My theory is that it is all the hard work Quade has them doing that is causing the improvement.

That's almost exactly what Hollandsworth suggested in the postgame--minus the icecream
