How bad does it have to get for Hendry to be gone?

Wait, what? He's survived far, far worse than this one game.

No I meant this season.

He's also survived far worse than this season. It's gotten to the point that I expect his firing to finally happen out of the blue seemingly over nothing, like after a win streak.

I gotta think last year was his freebie. If this keeps up I don't see how the Ricketts can keep him on. This team is bad and besides BJack and maybe McNutt there isn't a lot to be excited about in way of future help.

Really? The farm reports are a lot of fun these days.

Plus I wouldn't be surprised if The Hug alone bought him another season.

I should be more clear. At the upper levels those are the only two guys I really see helping within the next few years. The other guys maybe up and playing, but I doubt they will make large contributions.

that's being pretty optimistic. the cubs really aren't any better than average as far as their prospect pool, and they're lacking (as they have been for years) in any sort of true impact players. jackson and mcnutt could be above average but really don't have frequent all-star ceilings.

The Cubs are playing at a 90 win pace with their opening day rotation. If the fill-ins were even just as bad as last year's back of the rotation, the Cubs would be 2 games out of first, 1 out in the loss column entering tonight.

I'm perfectly happy with decent everday players coming from the farm at this point. That's still a huge improvement over the last few decades. Fill those roles internally and then you can focus the money on impact players instead of having to spread it around and dilute the FA signings.

The farm is just like the big league team. Plenty of decent enough pieces, a few above average, but no real standouts.

Aramis needs to pick it up, SOON

Eh, I'm torn. I love the guy and want him to do well, but I'm getting more to the point that I'd prefer the Cubs just buy him out next season. [expletive], what a crappy feeling.

It happens to every player at some point. He had a great few years for us.

Or maybe we just need to consider what really happened after 2009. I know there were injuries last season, but I still find it suspicious when someone suddenly drops from a consistent .900+ OPS to the low .700's in what should be the prime of his career.

So the catastrophic injury was just a cover story?

That's nice and everything, but every team should plan on having some missed time from their starting pitchers, and the Cubs probably more so than any other. If the fill-ins suck, that's on the team just as much as if the regular guys do.

The Cubs should plan for pitching injuries more so than any other team? Why?

And you don't think the Cubs wouldn't have signed guys like Davis with that in mind? It was just bad timing that two guys went down after their first starts of the year. Few teams are going to be able to handle that.

Yeah, his destroyed shoulder was an elaborate front.

well that's a very optimistic way of looking at things, considering that wells and cashner pitched only one game each and won them, so you're projecting a very small sample size over a very long season. nonetheless, i admire the mental gymnastics required to make it seem like the team with the fourth-worst run differential in baseball is a bad break or two away from being very good.

I'm not denying that it was tough luck. I just think the whole 'we're good with our team intact' thing doesn't hold much water because a MLB pitching rotation is extremely unlikely to stay intact for a whole year.

I'm really hoping we hit on this draft pick, we can't afford to keep crapping out on top 10 picks.
