SP in the minors who are on the 40 man roster:

-Alberto Cabrera - AA 4.71 ERA

-Robert Coello - AAA 9.00 ERA

-Thomas Diamond - AAA 8.86 ERA

-Rafael Dolis - AA 2.41 ERA

Yes those are some bad ERAs, but so are Russell's. Is it that crazy to say "maybe Russell isn't the answer, lets see if someone else can do better"?

There's an open spot on the 40 man, and we already tried to give away Schlitter for free once. Anyone in the minors should be eligible to come up.

You could probably even throw Samardzija into the mix for as much as he sucks. He's actually had some alright ML starts and couldn't do worse than Russell.

What happened to Doug Davis?

Aw [expletive], this is why we won't roster Jay Jackson isn't it. Because we have to save a spot for Doug [expletive] Davis or Ramon [expletive] Ortiz, and heaven forbid we lost Brian [expletive] Schlitter or Thomas [expletive] Diamond.

DAMMIT! I wanted to see Russell actually make it through 5 innings. That would have been fun.

The Cubs are in really big trouble if they can't find any other person in their 40 man roster to give them at least 5 IP and give up less than 5 runs. Is Thomas Diamond that bad?

Quade is such an idiot. I can't believe it only took a month for me to despise him.

Edit: I partially take that back. I didn't realize Diamond is the AAA version of Russell right now.

Yes, he is. Amazing that 1 month ago everyone was riding his nuts

Dolis is now a reliever. They should add Jay Jackson to the 40-man, he's had enough starts at AAA to get his feet wet. As SSR alluded to, Doug Davis is probably going to get the nod after a rehab start at A+ and then one at AAA.

With that Alfonsolo homerun, 9 of his 11 homers this year have been with no one on base.

Unless you think something's changed with regards to Soriano's talents this year compared to his career, this isn't really telling. Just very unfortunate.

What percentage of his ab's have come with nobody on, compared to runners on?

I got mildly excited seeing Broxton warm up in the pen thinking to myself for a second hey we could get to this guy. Then I realized we don't have a guy that either can or wants to hit a 3-run HR and we aren't stringing 5-6 singles together off him to make up the 3 runs.

Another warning track flyball out for Pena.

Ugh, the Cubs have been the epitome of a .500 team so far this year. An offense that puts up decent numbers but nothing great and a starting rotation who has been getting mixed results. I wasn't expecting much more this year, but it still doesn't make it any easier to watch.

A .500 team that is 4 games under .500 and has the 3rd worst run differential in baseball and the highest starting pitcher era in baseball sure.

Yeah, I'm quite confident that any of those guys would safely make it through waivers, not that it would matter if they didn't. On the position player front, I'm not sure who all is on the 40 man, but Fernando Perez strikes me as a guy who could be removed. And why is Schllitter even on it anymore? I know he boomeranged back to us, but that doesn't mean he has to take up a 40 man spot.

Whatever happened to David Patton, aka the guy who had never been higher than high A ball when the Cubs drafted him in the Rule 5 draft and were "forced" to use a 25 man spot on him for a majority of the year? He just disappeared.

Quade said Russell's performance was "OK," and that he was "one pitch away from a great outing."

"At this point, he's done a nice job," he said.

What in the hell?

Yeah Russells 10.05 ERA as a starter is a sign of a really nice job.

The only question is is Quade defending Russell or himself.
