I am so happy Quade is batting Geo 8th

There was no way they were going to give Soto anything to hit in that situation. The bat was taken out of the hands of one of the team's best hitters because of his position in the lineup.

That is the part where you are supposed to have someone who can hit righties on the bench and is good enough to cause the other team to respect his presence when facing Soto.

I still would've rather had Baker up instead of Dewitt though.

I wouldn't have. That at bat was awful. Putz just walked a guy on four pitches. Baker jumps on his first pitch. The pitcher is in trouble. I hope someday we get a GM who values patient hitters. Not one that allows one of his more patient and productive hitters to hit 8th.

Who didn't see that coming?

screw statements like this

we all saw it coming, but it doesn't make it any less infuriating.

Pretty much. Anyone expecting that is an [expletive].

Just because I expected that to happen doesn't mean that I wanted it to, but I've been watching this team long enough to have much confidence in any other result.

I didn't say it was a good at bat just that I trust Baker there more than Dewitt right now.

Did Soto actually say he felt more comfortable hitting 8th? I thought I read that on here in a gameday thread not too long ago. It's a complete [expletive] waste. If you can move Soriano out of the 1 spot, you acn move Soto up

Lame. If you're expecting the worst, why even bother?

Yeah, somebody mentioned that and I couldn't find any evidence of it.

GAH, this game is just so frustrating; it's like a repeat of last year with the middle of the lineup just unable to muster the kind of performances you need when most of the rest of the lineup is performing. Yeah, I know Aramis' numbers aren't bad, but they're not what they desperately need right now minus the power and with Pena as cold as he is.

Because luckily what I expect has no impact on what really happens. Expect the worst, hope for the best I guess... That isn't always the case for me, but I just don't have much confidence in this year's team at this point. I want the Cubs to be one of those teams that whatever happens, you just expect them to somehow to win the game, but they haven't done anything to inspire that confidence.

If you can't trust DeWitt to hit there though then he really has no spot on the roster.

Doesn't matter. I can't imagine having any desire to follow the team or watch any games if I'm always expecting the worst.

To me there's a gigantic difference between not being surprised at what happens and expecting the worst.

Isn't this what Cub fans have come to expect?

So you're usually wrong then.

I mentioned it once, but I was being sarcastic. Don't know if that's what you were referring to or not.

I like being pleasantly surprised. I do not like being unpleasantly surprised.

I cant tell if DeWitt is wasting the roster spot, or if this roster spot is wasting DeWitt. Now if DeWitt were given a regular playing time, hed more than likely put up his career numbers, avg. around .260, OPS in the .700s, and a handfull of home runs maybe even a bit better making the change from Dodger stadium to Wrigley. However, this is a guy whose used to being an everyday player, or at least half of a platoon at every stop in his career but all of the sudden, hot starts by Barney and Baker have turned him into the 25th man on the roster, a spot he isnt familiar with and isnt adapting to. I feel wed be better off with somebody like Marquez Smith or Bobby Scales with that job and maybe see if we cant get something, anything for DeWitt in trade.

This NL West run the Cubs are on to start the year is pretty odd.

We're going to be done playing the Dodgers, Rockies (except for the makeup game) and DBacks by May 4 and have had 22 of 31 scheduled games against that division to start the year.

So are they going to wait for Wells and Cashner to end this dreadfull little Coleman/Russell experiment? Dempsters been just as awful, but hes earned the right to figure things out unless hes injured. The other 2 have not. Every time one of those 2 start, we can assume they'll go 3-4 innings, 5 max and give up 4-5 runs, and thats before Berg comes in and gives up another 2-3. They need to make a change. The other options may not be much better, but you need to give them a chance. Be it Jackson or even McNutt, or hope for 2-3 starts worth or lightening in a bottle from Doug Davis or Ramon Ortiz, we simply cant have 2 of these guaranteed losses in the rotation. 1 is hard enough to swallow, but this division is winnable enough that they need to at least try other options.
