Why is Shark still getting chances?

Who would you rather have pitching in this situation?

Stevens, Maine, Caridad, Diamond, just about any other minor leaguer. We know that Shark isn't good, might as well see if any of those other guys can turn into something.

I was talking about the guys that are already with the team.

I realize he's just eating an inning in a game we're not going to win. Why not bring up someone else and give them a chance? His career statistics are terrible. He looks terrible now. He's always looked terrible. He shouldn't be on the roster.

That would require Hendry to admit he made a multimillion dollar mistake. Not gonna happen.

Yes, because there's never been an example of Hendry dealing with a multimillion dollar mistake.

Well, they got rid of Silva, Bradley, etc. That's what I don't get. If they'll flush Silva's contract, why not Shark? Hell, at least Silva was a productive member of the team for a short while.

Because it's really not that vital to scramble to fill the long relief role less than two weeks into the season.

Well Silva wasn't his mistake, and he got rid of Bradley while acquiring Silva. That's a push in my book. If Bradley wasn't traded I doubt Jimbo would have cut him loose the same way he did with Silva. This is all pure conjecture and worth nothing though.

Because getting rid of Samardzija in favor of similar flotsam like Justin Berg or Kyle Smit just because people don't like him would be a waste of resources.

there are still a few spazzes here. the bigger factor contributing to the small game threads is that the cubs are mediocre and the fans are apathetic.

Yeah but still the Cubs were 4-3 before this game. I think that is too early for apathy to set in for the season but maybe I'm wrong. Personally I have been thinking the Bulls & Blackhawks respective drives towards the playoffs have had something to do with it too.

I've been pretty apathetic since about April 2010. There is just a general sense of apathy from Cubs fans right now. Not all but many. Its why the crowds are dwindling, its why the game threads and Cubs posts in general have dropped significantly from 2 years ago.

Well, I'm assuming you'll be seeing more once it gets nicer out since they've already sold over 2.6 million tickets.

To idiots, I guess.

they sold more tickets to the games against the pirates but a lot of the people who had tickets didn't go. there are still tickets available for games/weekends that are normally sold out. they just had their lowest attendance game in years. i know they are still drawing some people, but how can you argue that there isn't a sense of apathy that wasn't there in recent years?

I didn't.

Fielder admiring his double

[expletive] that fatass

Do you say this every time one of our players admires one of their good plays?

Theres not enough good plays executed by our players to admire.

Heck the last 10 years seem like a golden age compared to the Cubs teams I grew up with in the late 80's and 90's. Outside of 1989 and 1998 there was really nothing at all to get excited about during those years.

But maybe the latest generation of fans are different. Myself I never get too down on the Cubs until they actually do play themselves out of contention which in the NL Central tends to take a lot of effort to do. This Cubs team has been far from perfect so far but also not a total disaster.

I don't know what Pena's splits are career-wise against left-handed pitching, but based on how he looked the last two nights, I can't imagine that the offense would have been any worse off with Colvin at first and Kosuke in the outfield. (That also assumes no Reed Johnson.) He had some pretty awful ABs last night, and tonight didn't look much better.

If Matt Garza ever faces Fielder again, I'd be okay with him rolling it across the other batters' box.

What a terrible game to be at. The drunk Brewer fans chanting about the Bears all night going along with cheering after the game like they won the World Series was awful. I hope Gallardo gets destroyed tomorrow.

I hope Castro is ok. Before the game, I was by the Cubs dugout waiting for players to come out. Wells was giving balls to the kids. Marmol was signing autographs. It's a shame they were shutout by Chris Narveson. Downer game.
