Maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong. All I know is that our AD wouldn't waste all this time on Buzz if he didn't think it was a possibility. I still don't think it happens, but I can dream.

Oh I agree. This isn't a comment on A&M. It's more about Marquette protecting itself from Crean part II. A&M has to at least pursue Buzz to the fullest extent possible. There's too much in the way of connections to not ask.

I didn't take it as a slight against A&M. Hell, even I questioned why a basketball coach would go from Marquette to A&M.

But unless anyone has seen the contract, how can they know for sure either way about the supposed out clause for some Texas schools? Since Marquette is a private school, Buzz's contract is not public, right?

This is true. Not many know the new contract numbers. I'd assume the salary is at least $2.2 million, based on local reports. I also know it's a big roll over deal but I think that only affects any number Marquette would pay if they fired him.

It's a heck of a lot harder to win in the Big East than in the Big 12. Granted, aTm fans aren't very dedicated to the hoops team (not compared to football), but I think it's a reasonably attractive job now that BCG and Turgeon have put it on the map. And aTm is a program that is guaranteed to land in a major conference should there be another shake up, so no worries on the front.

Unlike a few other Big 12 schools.

Apparently Adam Woodbury (2012 7' from Iowa) schooled Perea the IU commit at the Spiece tournament this weekend. The Iowa team featuring he and Mike Gesell, another top 100 guy won the tournament and beat the Indiana squad.

The good news is Iowa is supposed to be the leader for both of them and they're playing really well. The bad news is Iowa hasn't had any luck with the in-state guys who blow up.

Considering that Perea is 6'8 I'm guessing a 7 footer should be able to score on him. :P

It wasn't just the height advantage- Woodbury has a lot of offensive skill for a guy his size and age. The matchup wasn't quite as lopsided in the second half, when Perea was more aggressive on the glass, but he's miles behind Woodbury offensively right now.

As far as long term potential, though, at this point it's no contest athletically. Perea is an absolute freak athlete. Whether or not his skills catch up remains to be seen.

Just a minor quibble, but Woodbury is almost 7'2 now. Which only reinforces your point.

Any thoughts on the following?

Billy Kennedy (Murray State)

Ben Jacobson (Northern Iowa)

Tommy Amaker (Harvard)

I don't know how Jacobson is as a recruiter, but I think he's a solid coach overall. He's more than just the coach who upset Kansas two years ago. Don't really know anything about Kennedy, but I think Amaker is better than people give him credit for.

While it's not sexy, I've heard good stuff about Scott Spinelli. Is there much of a movement to go internal?

Wow, that is uninspiring.

You may be hesitant to go back to the same well, but I like Gregg Marshall.

Yes, there is and it wouldn't surprise me if that happens. I wouldn't be too upset about that. Amaker intrigues me.

That's what happens when you're Texas A&M. There is plenty of money out there to pay a big time coach, but they don't want to spend it on anything but football. I've heard Marshall's name mentioned. It wouldn't surprise me if he turned out to be the guy.

These 17 guys were invited to tryout for the USA U19 World Championship team. They'll cut 5 of them.

As the only 7'er, I'm thinking Leonard has a good shot at making the team.

I'm thinking everyone that's not a guard has a good chance, unless they take 10 guards.

Looks like Billy Kennedy will be the next coach of the Aggies. I wonder if Spinelli stays around on his staff or if he joins Turgeon at Maryland. Either way, the most important thing is that our two 4-star recruits said the other day that they will stick to their commitment. That was my biggest fear about Turge jumping ship.

So apparently the Indiana Elite AAU team lost in a tournament this morning and Ron Patterson (2012 IU verbal) threw a fit and tweeted that he is looking for a new AAU team. On the Indiana Elite team he is playing with the other 2012 IU kids Yogi Ferrell, Hanner Perea and Jeremy Hollowell. A bit disturbing that he would even talk about bailing on his future teammates. :-k

If he gets that bent out of shape about losing a game, he's going to have a rough time at IU.
