snowout

don't you predict like 40 rainouts or snowouts a year?

the high temperature is forecast to be 47 degrees; snow tends to not fall when the temperature is 15 degrees above freezing.

We all don't have degrees in weatherography

Anyone else's TV schedule not even show the Cubs on WGN? Maybe it's just comcast but for WGN and WGN-HD they have Maury on at 1pm and 2pm, I forgot what was after that but who care, it doesn't even show the Cubs.

Are there stats for record in inclement weather?

Not sure about overall, but the Cubs won 4-0 against the Rockies in the 2009 opener in very similar weather (it might have actually been colder). I remember it rained all morning, then stopped long enough for Ted Lilly to almost throw a no-hitter, then started again.

I was there and it was pretty miserable watching in those conditions, but as always a win makes everything better. I'll settle for a similar result tomorrow.

Could Byrd possibly sit out this game?

That's Fred's job!

Also-- the Pirates lineup kinda owns Demp.

My God...the sample sizes.

The "Dempster is terrified of Lyle Overbay" theory appears irrefutable.

The forecast indicates any mix will turn to just rain by around 10 am.

Won't be long now!

Tomorrow's Opening Day lineup

Fukudome RF

Castro SS

Byrd CF

Ramirez 3B

Pena 1B

Soto C

Soriano LF

Barney 2B

Dempster P

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

This would be frustrating anyway, but considering Baker has hit Correia pretty well there is no excuse for this. Oh well, Quade has done far more good things than bad to this point. I am pretty happy with the rest of the lineup, however.

There's a decent chance Barney will get as many plate appearances against Correia tomorrow as Baker has in his career to this point.

Then I expect him to go 2-5 with a homer.

And yet the Cubs will still lose 11-1, because nobody can hit Correia and the Pirates murder Dempster.

Swap Soto for Byrd and I'd really like this lineup. As it is, not bad. Lou certainly produced far worse lineups on a consistent basis.

Wait what? When did Barney become our starting 2B? Having a non-prospect with little upside start on Opening Day is something a team like the Pirates is forced to do, not the Cubs.
Posted
The thing I fear the most.... Barney struggles early and instead of getting Baker more starts and/or Dewitt, Castillo is still a FA and Hendry goes out and signs him to be our starting 2B.

If Barney winds up our everyday 2B, I'll be upset. Given the choice, however, to play DeWitt, Baker vs. a righty, or Barney, I have no problem with Barney starting tomorrow. He's a better defender than either DeWitt or Baker, and he'll be hitting 8th.

We don't really have any great 2B options vs. right handers.

The fact that DeWitt struggled in ST seems to be the primary reason he's not starting, which I don't know if I agree with. It should more or less be a strict DeWitt/Baker platoon with Barney only coming in late for more range. He's done nothing to earn regular major league ABs.

But yeah, DeWitt is really in the doghouse it appears.

man, why can't we have some good weather for once on opening day? Jesus

I'd almost rather is snow than rain

Yea... would be nice if we could have like a sunny 70 degree day on opening day for once... We certainly didn't have one of those last year.

OH WAIT
