Forecast right now is calling for a rain/snow mix with a high of 45, aka the 2009 opener weather. :( :-&

This is what my buddy texted me, where is this coming from? Accuweather has it at 51 and cloudy.

I'll be in Wrigleyville all weekend as a buddy of mine just moved up there. I have some excellent tickets behind home plate for Saturday but I'll spend game time Friday in a bar. I've spent some time in basically every bar around there but I'm not sure which one to go with for a full game since I've never done that. Any recommendations?

Cop out answer, but it depends on what you're looking for.

Honestly not even sure. I know I could just walk into a crowded bar close before game time and get some pitchers. But for an entire game that could get a little old. I'd like to get a booth somewhere, so I'm guessing I'd have to go a little early, while still being around a bunch of Cubs fans. But I wouldn't be looking for much more beyond that besides reasonably priced drinks and some decent to good food. And I'd like to be as close to Wrigley as possible.

Sounds like Sports Corner to me tfarks. The one thing I'd warn you about is that you may hear the roar of the crowd before you get to watch it on TV.

I wouldn't say you have to get their absurdly early, because I imagine a lot of people sitting there at 9 AM will be going to the game. You'll just have to be that guy who hovers around a table once they get their check.

I just watched bleacher seats sell out. This is crazy how many levels of seats are still available. Just pulled up 2 about 12 rows behind home plate.

Really makes me regret picking up a pair of terrace reserved two months ago

Do the Cubs do ticket upgrades?

Can't see why they wouldn't want me to spend more money.

Thanks, I'm gonna give it a shot.

Am I a bad Cubs fan that I almost want to see noticeably empty rows of seats during opening day?

I am thinking every radio station in Chicago will be holding contests giving away tickets to Fridays game the next couple of days.

I don't think it makes you a bad Cubs fan, but people really need to drop this notion that their intentionall fielding mediocre teams, and the only way that we as fans can knock some sense into them is with tough love and stop going to the games.

I don't think it matters wether it's intentional or not. I'm certainly not that excited about our chances this year, not any more so than last year. The pitching should be good but the hitting won't be enough to win enough games to put us in the playoffs. they really didn't do anything to improve it. The only real exciting thing they did during the offseason was to add Garza and did so at great cost. Combine these things with usual poor weather, and that's why you have less than stellar ticket sales for opening day. I don't really know that I'd shell out the money to go this year either.

I said good not great. Keep dreaming, this team is not the 2010 Giants.

Not saying that, but was there anyone before that season started who thought the Giants had any chance of achieving what they did? Not many, as most were saying the same things you're saying about the Cubs now. They do have better pitching, but they weren't perfect last year. Lincecum had a pretty shaky regular season by his standards.

My point is that you can win a World Series without a great offense.

To echo the words of an earlier poster, how the heck is Kevin Correia an Opening Day starter?

That's not my belief though. I just want them to drop the ticket prices. I respect whatever price they charge for tickets, but for my own personal greed, I'd like to not have to pay $80 for bleacher seats to some games.

True. You can. But you need a Lincecum, Cain, Bumgartener, Sanchez, and a good bullpen. Ours is respectable and our rotation is pretty good, but the Giants have both better starters and a better pen than us.

But who says our pitching has to be as good as the Giants to win a World Series? Everyone here should know that once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen. And with the NL Central shaping up to be horrible once again, we can win the division with this team. Plus, I think our offense has the potential to be a little better than San Fran's.

Put me in the category of people who think the Cubs will probably win a World Series in a year which they barely make the playoffs, not a year when they dominate and the entire world is watching them like 2008. Not saying it's going to happen this year, but it's too early to rule that out now.
