6. Cleveland Browns - Marcell Dareus

This pick is easy. Dareus is the best defensive player left on the board. With the Browns moving to a 4-3 defense, Dareus is the perfect DT for the new system. Good against the run and an effective pass rusher, Dareus is an ideal guy to build the new D-line around.

It's a choice between Tigers here and the Titans choose to go with the super athletic defensive tackle who could play anywhere on the line for Munchak. Perhaps the next Albert Haynesworth - both in talent and attitude.

The eighth selection is Nick Fairley, defensive tackle, Auburn.

Cam Newton was hard to pass up here, but the hope is that one of Kaepernick or Ponder are there in the 2nd round and Fairley+Kaepernick is better than Newton+anybody.

vance and the Cowboys are on the clock, I'll PM him.

If the real draft were to fall this way, and Cam Newton is still on the board, I think the Cowboys will try desperately to trade down into the teens and pick up an extra third round pick.

But, since trade downs are not possible in this mock.

Think the Cowboys look at three players here:

1. Prince Amukuamara, CB

2. J.J. Watt, DE

3. Tyron Smith, OT

All three are needs for the Cowboys. All three players I've seen mocked to the Cowboys.

Jerry Jones has never selected an o-lineman in the first round. This could be the year it changes. Smith is athletic enough to play RT now and could slide to the leftside if needed. I'm going with the Cowboys selecting Tyron Smith- OT USC.

I think this is the spot where Cam Newton finally goes. The Redskins have McNabb, Rex Grossman and John Beck at quarterback, Cam is a big name and Daniel Snyder loves his big names. With two decent veterans on the roster, even if McNabb is cut or traded, Newton will have a veteran QB to learn behind.

Thus, the selection with the 10th pick of the draft is Cam Newton, QB, Auburn.

Lo_Pan_Fan is now on the clock for the Texans. I'll PM him.

Will be interesting come draft day. I agree completely on the trade down too if at all possible.

13. Detroit Lions - Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College

didn't really care for any of the CB or OLB here, and Castonzo's probably not far from being BPA anyway, so we'll just go with that

The obvious move here would have been to pair Sam Bradford with a play-making receiver. The second-best move the Rams can make is to bolster the defensive line, which will regress in 2011 with James Hall and Fred Robbins being a year older.

The Rams select Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri

The Dolphins have a number of options here, but none are a good value at 15. Their biggest needs are at QB and RB, and while there's talent available at those spots, almost any pick is a bit of a reach. Mallett and Locker are the top QBs on the board, while Mark Ingram is probably the top tailback. Any of the three would be a good pick, but all three may well last into the 20s.

So, the Dolphins go with the safest and the biggest need, taking Jake Locker, QB, Washington with the 15th pick.

Raisin and the Jags are now on the clock. I'll PM him.

One of the most interesting players in the draft. All kinds of talent and ability, but the same amount of character concerns. I've heard people who think he'll be a first round pick and others who think he'll freefall.

Yeah... I'm not sure how a team like the Jaguars would feel about his problems. But the Jaguars are in desperate need of help throughout the defensive backfield and no one else with his talent level at DB is at the top of my draft board.

I think he's probably worth the gamble, but will likely fall at least into the 20s. The Jags do need the help there, though.

New England are going with Nate Solder... They do have other needs that could be picked, but feel like those needs are deeper in depth than OT in this draft with the exception of RB probably and Pats hasn't rely on their running game heavily in like 20 years so it's not a huge deal. With Pats being a great team still, they can afford to have Solder on the sideline and not starting as he learns how to play and develop more as he has the highest upside out of the OTs in this class.

Gotta say i think the Pats take Cam Jordan in that situation.

the only other name i had really considered for my pick, but i don't think we'd never gamble on character in a spot like that

The choice for the Giants here comes down to two players, really - Gabe Carimi or Akeem Ayers. The Giants are old at the tackle spots, however they may be able to squeeze some more life out of Diehl and McKenzie. They also have William Beatty and Jamon Meredith developing behind the two aged vets. At strongside linebacker, however, they have only Keith Bulluck - who is 34 years old, has battled some injuries and is a free agent.

The pick could very easily be Carimi here as Ayers may not be the best fit and this may be a tad early for him. However, need takes precedence at this point and the Giants select Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA.

Splendid Splinter and the Bucs are now on the clock, I'll PM him.

Yeah it was really between Jordan and Solder for me... I asked 2 friends who REALLY pays attentions to the Pats and their organization and both of them said Solder. I think (to them) it's mainly insurance in case if Mankins and Light leaves that the Pats will select an OT here and use their DE/OLB pick with their 28th pick as the depth is deeper at those position (in the first round anyway). They thought if Pats gets an DE/OLB there than they might have to hope that one of the OT will fall to the 28th pick.. I'm having them helping me with the Pats picks as they know A LOT more about them and their needs than I do.
