I was just reading that Kosuke wants to stay in MLB past this year, and preferably with the Cubs (he did just buy a house in Chicago).

If I'm the Cubs, I'd offer him a Marlon Byrd type contract, maybe even 3/12, with the understanding he may well end up strictly a platoon player/spot starter. At 4-5MM per, he'd be a terrific value, IMO.

Yeah, if they can have him back cheap like that and he gets that it's largely a platoon/bench role I'd be all for it.

I have no problems with Kukudome at all. But, I don't want him back either, especially 3/12 for a guy who will turn 35 at the beginning of next season. He's a lefty/OBP guy and with Colvin/Soriano/B Jackson appearing to be our starting OF in 2012, we actually need a RIGHTY as our main bat off the bench, not a lefty.

He just won't be a good fit for how the rest of our roster sets up, plus he's too old to be giving anything more than a one year deal, even if he was a righty.

We'll have to see how this season goes. At this point, I'm not totally sold on Colvin, and would choose Kosuke over Tyler if I had to choose to go with one or the other right now.

RF will either be Colvin or Jackson next season. I can't see the Cubs keeping Fukudome under any circumstances.

If Fukudome doesn't have a terrible season, I definitely wouldn't mind having him back. That said, I wouldn't give a three-year deal to a platoon/back up outfielder. One or two years at 4-5 mil per doesn't seem too unreasonable. But I guess we have to see how this season goes. If Colvin tanks and Brett Jackson hits a speed bump in his development, it could be a worthwhile signing.

Unfortunately I think you're right. I think Kosuke could still be useful spot starting around the OF.
