I looked at that and immediately saw the same.

Last year of Jordan to now. NBA pulls less than half of what it used to.

I have so many questions about that poll. I'm sorry, but I find it impossible to believe that golf, track and field , tennis and bowling have the same popularity. That's just ridiculous.

It's not popularity, it's just favorite sport. I'd imagine that if you're a fan of track and field, you're more likely to have that as your favorite sport than anything else. Perhaps same with bowling. Golf, on the other hand, could be a 3rd or 4th favorite sport for many more people than track and field, but it's not a top favorite.

It doesn't mean they have the same popularity. It just means they have the same number of ultra dedicated fans. Obviously golf and tennis have many more fans than track and field or bowling do but most of those fans aren't going to see them as their absolute favorite sport.

After finding out that only the person that fumbled the ball in the last two minutes can recover the ball, and that just touching the quarterback as his arm goes forward draws a penalty, football has definetly taken a dip in my book. they have made it into a wussy game.

lol

It doesn't show up in the poll, but I voted "throwing rocks at snakes" as my favorite sport.

Cut me a break, that was three years ago and I was trying to save his life!! I have moved onto hitting golf balls at coyotes at sunset. It is a growing sport, it will be on this survey in a couple of years *L* Top that!

I hate that auto racing is more popular than basketball and hockey.

Death goes a long way for ratings

That's probably more a draw for the casual fan than it is for die hards.

When was the last time there was a death in a major auto race? I don't follow the sport, so maybe it's been more recent than I realize.

Earnhardt in 01. There were several deaths in the years right before that but since then there's only been a couple of deaths in practice for any of the major series.

I have been given ticket to a grand prix race, which is cool because they actually have to turn corners but you couldn't pay me enough to go to a nascar race, but I do respect the fans passion for it.

Something else that stands out to me is the popularity of men's golf decreasing by half in the span of one year. One can only assume Tiger lost a lot of fans.

one, what's the sample size? two, these are small numbers that are being rounded off. for all we know, golf's percentage was 3.6% in 2009 and 2.4% in 2010, which is a lot less than half.

Those poll results are pretty worthless, as far as "popularity" goes, once you get beyond the top 4-5 sports. Half the people that named football or baseball #1 might have put any number of those other sports 2nd on their list if they had been asked. That would be more informative for those less popular sports than this poll.
