And if being a rival means nothing, David, why does Mark Buerhle want absolutely nothing to do with the Cubs?

Where did you read that?

Too many times he has made snarky comments about our fans, stadium and team. Read between the lines and you know he is not coming here.

He's probably not coming here because there are a ton of teams after him and we are only among one of many (and our front office is hopefully smart enough not to overpay, which he inevitably will be).

If we offered the most money, are you really delusional enough to think that he'd pass that up, along with being able to stay in Chicago, just because he was on the White Sox?

You're right, he doesn't. That's why he told his agent to cut off all contact with them!

So if Buehrle gets the best offer out there and it's from the Cubs, why not come pitch here?

Uhhhh.... When did that happen?

Can you see in the future?

Just like Jim Edmonds.

Jim Edmonds hated playing at Wrigley too. Until the Cubs paid him to do it.

I can't believe Jaime Navarro would have the audacity to go to the White Sox.

He's like the exception to every rule.

"I mean I can't speak for them (critics of Wrigley), but I dislike Wrigley that much. "I joked around with somebody the other day, saying I don't know if I could even sign with the (St. Louis) Cardinals, as much as everybody knows one day I want to play for the Cardinals.

"I don't know if I could because that means I'd have to go to Wrigley three times, and that's how much I hate going over there."

RYNE SANDBERG IS GOING TO BE THE CUBS NEXT MANAGER. HE'S PAID HIS DUES.

HE'D NEVER EVEN CONSIDER MANAGING THE CARDINALS!

When did Sandberg SAY that? And the Cubs already said to him: "No thanks". He has no choice but to look at other opps. If MB or Pujols sign here, I will be the first to admit I was wrong.

You're wrong whether they sign here or not.

Answer the question I already asked you...do you really think that if the Cubs made the clear best offer to Buehrle (which they won't, because they aren't dumb enough to overpay for him...and with as much interest as there is in him, he will be overpaid), he would pass up the most money and being able to stay in Chicago just because he played for the White Sox and he once made fun of Wrigley Field (as a member of the White Sox)?

The reason is not because he played for the White Sox. The reason is because he dislikes the Cubs and especially Wrigley. Assuming his comments can be taken at face value, which, admittedly, we can't know for sure. They could be just the typical rivalry bravado crap. Or he could legitimately feel that way.

Ok, since you appear to want to play devil's advocate... you answer the question.

I don't know the guy, but if it was me, absolutely I'd take less money to avoid working in a situation I didn't like. Especially if I'd have more money than I'd ever need anyway.

I have no way of knowing how Buehrle would act though.

I can't answer that because I am not Buehrle. All things being equal, if both the Cubs and White Sox offered him a fair contract (and that is basically what either team can offer at this point) but ours was worth slightly more, I think he would stay on the South Side.

Belive it or not, sometimes players do feel a loyalty towards an organization and it's fan base if the dollars are close.

Feeling loyalty to your current team has nothing to do with refusing to play for their rival.

You seriously think he makes that statement if he were playing for anyone other than the White Sox, Brewers, Astros, Reds or Cards?

Who said anything about dollars being close?

Nobody ever said Pujols would leave St. Louis over a negligible amount of money.

That's a COMPLETELY different argument.

Oh, and where the hell do you get that the White Sox and Cubs are on equal ground in terms of what they could offer? That is basically the opposite of the truth right now.
