I thought I liked Chris Young until I realized he's going to be 32 early this coming season.

On a one-year deal, his age isn't really a concern. If he's looking for a multi-year deal, then it becomes more of a concern. His flyball tendencies and durability worry me more than his age.

I used to have high hopes for Ian Snell. He had such solid minor league numbers before getting called up. Guess he just didn't have it

I was reading an SI a few months ago, and apparently he suffers from baseballs newest "injury", the social anxiety disorder along with Greinke, Willis, and yes, Milton Bradley, along with a handfull of less notable players, mostly pitchers.

Jeff Francis over all these guys

He'd be really interesting.

Yeah, I was thinking about him as well. Is the A's stadium not a hitter's park? I know the Rockies stadium obviously is which puts Francis's numbers into perspective, but why not Duchscherer? Is his injury worse? Still lingering? What am I missing?

Not sure what's going on with Duchsherer, but the As park has always been pretty pitcher friendly I thought. Francis would probably be cheaper than Duchsherer, since he's had less experience and success.

If signing ANY of these guys keeps Cashner from getting his shot at the rotation, my answer is an extremely easy "no". If we have the money available to sign one of these guys, I'd rather put that money towards something else, if given that choice. If we HAD to sign one of these guys, I guess I'd take Duchsherer.

Couldn't agree more. Cashner's minor league numbers last season, though limited due to his early call-up, were pretty darn good.

9 starts, 55 IP (just over 6 innings per start), 6-1, 2.12 ERA, 35 H, 1 HR, 15 BB, 56 K.

When a pitcher can hold batters to well under a hit per inning and get more than a strikeout per inning at the upper levels with a WHIP under 1, that's good. I'd really like to see what he can do at the major league level over the next 5 years.

My hope is that we'd sign one of these guys instead of trading for Garza. This is the rotation I'd envision:

Demp

Z

Wells

Francis/Duchsherer/etc

Cashner

Silva is then either traded or put in a long relief role to be moved into the rotation should anybody get hurt.

Gorz could be traded as well. I think he could bring something decent in return. Not great, but decent.

Yeah, that wouldn't surprise me at all.
