Staggering to note how much money Beltre will have made as an average major league third baseman.

Something else to note about him is how valuable it can be to have your "good" years fall at the right time.

Maybe he should've had a good year in his last year at Seattle

Safeco didn't help him, either. 3 of the 5 years he was there, we was pretty good, but he hits a lot of fly balls. His LD% was right around his norms (above his career avg 2 of the years) while in Seattle as well.

He's not the 10 WAR player he was in 2004, but his rate stats suggest his walk years aren't quite the outliers they appear to be.

I can easily see him putting up some numbers in Texas.

He also gets to hit in between Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz. Rangers lineup will be potent again.

Andrus

Young

Hamilton

Beltre

Cruz

Kinsler

Moreland

Borbon/Murphy

I don't think Beltre will ever hit 40 homers again, but I don't think 30 is out of the question playing in that ballpark. Unless he just completely falls off a cliff production wise or gets injured, Beltre might actually be worth that gamble. Big "maybe", though

Defense matters, people.

you think his defense is good enough to warrant 96 million?

It's 80 million. And combined with his bat, he'll probably come very close to being worth it.

if beltre stays healthy the last 3 years, its 96 and its out of texas' control

And if he's healthy he's likely going to be pretty much worth the money.
