His numbers make me automatically think Do Not Want. But he is still young and his power #'s would increase playing at Wrigley. Plus there's the whole change of scenery + Jaramillo thing.

He has ridiculous home/away splits in his career. He's a career .307/.361/.493/.854 guy on the road (117 OPS+). He's a career 82 OPS+ at Dodger Stadium. He's had 1208 PAs in his career at home and just twenty more on the road, but more than twice the amount of home runs. Twice the amount of triples and 50% more doubles. If you could guarantee those splits for him as a Cub, we're looking at a guy comparable to Mark Grace with a little more power. Unfortunately expecting that his risky. I don't see how he is any worse than Pena. He's certainly better than Davis and probably better than LaRoche. He also doesn't turn 27 until May so there's a chance he could develop a little more power.

 

That being said, the H/A splits didn't exist in 2010 but existed every year prior. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. There would be at least some room for optimism, not sure there would be any room if we got Chris Davis. He's not an ideal candidate but an 800 OPS isn't out of the question with solid defense. We could do worse, a lot worse.

A "high-ranking Dodgers official" told Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that first baseman James Loney will not be moved this winter.

So much for that. The Brewers and Cubs had some initial interest, but the Dodgers didn't want to have to sell low on Loney, who hit just .267/.329/.395 in 2010 and has failed to flash adequate big league power numbers. The 26-year-old will be back in Dodger blue for the 2011 season.

Loney isn't that good. He doesn't have any power at a position and for a team that needs power. He doesn't get on base enough to justify the relative lack of power (ala Mark Grace). He doesn't hit LHPs particulary well.

 

FWIW, he does have some decent looking home/road splits, and getting him out of Dodgers Stadium could mean you get a low .800 OPS out of him. Nothing special, but more than the Cubs got out of DLee last year.

Between the A Gon deal and the Sorian-esqu werth deal, The Brewers are officially priced on for post 2011 Prince Fielder, so they're probably trying to get what they can for him.
