who was it like a month ago that was screaming about how there was no way the padres were trading this guy

I don't if that's exactly how I put it. I probably said that they wouldn't trade him and I certainly was wrong. However, I'm not the one that will be facing a huge backlash for doing so. That's all on the ownership and GM of the Padres. Good luck selling tickets this year, boys!

oh. well, either way, it's definitely taken a lot of the shine off your modhood in my eyes.

I'm so happy to know that I've disappointed you so.

The Cubs inquired about the Padres' Adrian Gonzalez and Dodgers' James Loney. But Gonzalez, who wound up with the Red Sox, would have cost the Cubs Andrew Cashner, who is not available.

This is from a Sully article in today's Trib. I hope to God that we didn't back out of a possible AGon deal solely because we refused to trade Cashner.

second that. we're cheap & we're holding back on a real haul for someone who hasn't at all put it together to be a meaningful piece of the future equation? I hope there was some misinterpretation behind that statement from the Trib. guess I should take a cue from Lou & give Ricketts & these well founded approaches more time. maybe then next off-season we can latch onto another B-ish prospect at the expense of a player we need. Weak.

It all depends on what the rest of the deal was. If we were already giving up BJax/Archer/HJ Lee and they wanted Cashner as well, it was good to turn it down. If they just simply wouldn't trade Cashner at all, that's a bit disappointing. However, with the upside Cashner has, it's hard to trade him away for anybody, even Adrian Gonzalez.
