Cardinals signed RHP Jake Westbrook to a two-year, $16.5 million contract with a mutual option for 2013.

He probably could have found more guaranteed years elsewhere in a weak market for free agent starters, so the Cardinals did pretty to keep him. Westbrook, 33, went 10-11 with a 4.22 ERA over 33 starts between the Indians and Cardinals this past season, his first since missing the entire 2009 season following Tommy John surgery. He should continue to benefit in the National League.

If they're convinced they need a starter, I actually wish they had gotten Westbrook. He's the best of the names thrown around.

I wouldn't mind if they didn't get a starter at all, though.
