This was almost the exact reasoning behind their bidding on (and winning) the rights to Iwakuma, if I'm not mistaken: so that they could trade one of their vaunted young arms for a bat.

Has Iwakuma even signed yet?

The A's won the bidding, but he hasn't put pen to paper yet. Considering what they spent to negotiate with him, the A's should get him.

Yeah I knew that, I just remember DiceK's negotiation went down to the wire too. They must very confident that he will sign.

I can't see any way they don't get a deal done. Iwakuma isn't Daisuke by a long shot and one would think that a team with a limited payroll like the A's didn't put up the money to win the bidding for him AND trade away cheap, young rotation filler for DeJesus just to lose Iwakuma.

The A's have broken off talks with Iwakuma. Apparently he wants Barry Zito money. Hilarious.

A's and Iwakuma making me look bad. #-o

Oakland had offered a four-year contract worth $14 million to Iwakuma, who helped Japan retain their World Baseball Classic title in Los Angeles last year.

Iwakuma had reportedly asked for a seven-year package worth around $125 million, forcing the A’s to pull out of negotiations and leaving him with no option but to remain in Japan.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Not as bad as the A's front office is going to look. How much did the flush down the toilet for the posting fee $14million?

It's my understanding that the posting fee is only paid if he signs with the club.

NPB will have some incentive to talk some sense into the guy.

My fault, I was under the impression it was paid regardless.
