The Bears have signed defensive end Barry Turner, an undrafted rookie free agent from Nebraska, to take the place of Charles Grant on the 53-man roster, according to a source.

Turner has been on the Bears' practice squad and was impressive during training camp and preseason. He signed with the Bears almost immediately after the draft, and the team had brought him in to Halas Hall for a pre-draft visit.

And yet Charles Grant was thought to be a better option until now.

Use second round pick for Mankins, and use first round pick to get a starting LT.....your o-line is effectively fixed and you can now address other needs.

Well they have 5 minutes to offer that pick to NE before the deadline comes and goes. According to PFT they are asking for a first.

Except that the Patriots weren't giving him up for a 2 and as you saw with Chris Williams (and many others) using a 1st on a LT doesn't guarantee success.

Lovie Smith says Danieal Manning misses practice with rib injury. Listed on injury report with a back issue.

Chris Harris also missed practice.

As did Briggs and Urlacher. Did anyone on the d practice?

Martz addressing the play with Olsen at LT...

"I think (Olsen) is pretty good (blocking), don't you?" Martz said.

It was pointed out that Olsen was sacrificing an awful lot of size on the play, which was stopped immediately by Bryant, who peeled off Olsen to bring Forte down with his right arm.

"I think he has done a pretty good job," Martz said. "We've done that all year. Have you watched the tape? He's done a good job. I like him. I like him over there. He does a great job. Guy is outside of him. Heck, no, he has help with him, too. We like him as a blocker right now. I don't have any hesitation putting him out there.

The focus that one play has received is a bit over the top. It was one play. There were dozens where the blocking was horrid.

It wouldn't surprise me if Martz is just playing games at this point.

What do you mean by playing games? That play was a huge factor in the safety that occurred on the subsequent play.

But I thought he couldnt block and that's why they were going to trade him

"There's a reason why sometimes young linemen look like they don't know what they're doing,'' offensive line coach Mike Tice told the Chicago Tribune, "because usually, they don't.''

Tice said he used 20 different protection schemes last week, while one offensive lineman told reporter Vaughn McClure the team only used six.

Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher said he should be ``good to go'' for Thursday's practice after sitting out Wednesday.

Urlacher pulled his groin muscle in the third quarter of the Carolina game and gutted through the pain last week versus Seattle. He was upset with himself for not making more plays against the Seahawks although Urlacher refused to use to injury as an excuse.

I mean maybe he isn't even giving a serious answer.

I don't know man, but regardless of the 4-2 record I just feel like this club has 6-game losing streak written all over it.

Heck, I'm amazed we got to where we are right now. But everyone's got all the tape they need on us now, it's not like we're going to fool anyone moving forward.

And our offensive scheme plays right into our weakest aspect.

Well its just like last year. Pretty much after the debacle in Cincinnati everyone pretty much knew things were toast. With all the injuries we had on defense and the inconsistent offense, any good team we placed was going to have their way with us. We started 3-1, lost a close game to Atlanta that actually made me feel good about them and then got embarrassed 45-10 by Cincinnati. I think people kind of sensed what was happening. And before we knew it we had lost 8 of 10 games.

This year I feel slightly better than we did last year mostly because the defense will keep us in games, whereas last year any good offense we played I expected them to roll over us every single time they had the ball.

I think there was still some hope left before Arizona. At least I remember being at the game and sensing that people still held out hope for a playoff run. Everybody gets one crap game to write off and ignore. But the 2nd blowout in 2 weeks ended everything. This years crap games have not been blowouts, so it is different. But one of these times it's going to happen.
