I see, I was somehow under the impression that the top 6 were going to be split up by conference, I guess I just read that into the article.

 

One thing that I have to agree with the NHL about is that they try to make the All Star game work. It will never be that great of a game, but at least change how to market it is kind of cool.

One thing that I have to agree with the NHL about is that they try to make the All Star game work. It will never be that great of a game, but at least change how to market it is kind of cool.

 

I think the idea is really cool. They need a 30 minute special just toward the captains picking players. I wouldn't mind if they picked the all-star representatives then the day of the game have the two captains pick their players and have them skate to that side right before the game.

I'm afraid they won't televise the "draft". It seems like it would be too problematic. Having it televised, you someone would be picked last, and there would be pressure to pick teammates. I suspect we'll just hear that the "draft" was held and here are the results...and they'll list the whole team. I could be wrong, but that's just how I see it happening.

The best thing the NHL could do is get a deal similar to what the NBA has with ESPN/TNT. Certain nights of the week Versus gets a doubleheader and in the playoffs they can telecast a boatload of the early games. ESPN gets the Stanley Cup.

 

Best of both worlds.

flyers signed jeff carter to a 11 year, $58m contract. very reasonable cap hit ($5.27M/year).

 

in other news, the man they call bob (sergei bobrovsky) has been one of the best goalies in the league this year... what a find. my biggest concern with him is that he's young and didn't play that many games in the KHL. hopefully boucher and/or leighton start getting some more starts so that bob is still fresh late in the year.

sean avery laid a big hit on an edmonton player in the third period of their game. a guy from the oilers challenged avery to a fight; avery told him "no, next shift", so the guy relaxed, which was followed by avery throwing off his gloves and punching the guy in the face (the guy did get his gloves off, but wasn't anywhere close to being ready to fight when avery nailed him), followed by avery courageously attempting to wail on the guy who's down on the ice.

 

what a clown. someday avery might just get stabbed on the ice when nobody is looking.

we have won our last 3 games by a score of 18-4 and have the best goal differential in the league... would be nice to see this roll last all year but we'll slump at some point. love the depth on D though.

not sure if anyone has seen the news about colin campbell's e-mails, but it's pretty funny. he was sending e-mail to a referee bitching about bad calls going against a particular player.

 

A bend in the road is a dead end if you round the corner and Dean Warren is standing there. Your answer re: his high stick calls and the score of the game were horse [expletive]. The 3rd call on [player] was while they were down 5 on 4 and on a def zone face off vs that little fake artist [player] I had him in [city] biggest faker going. And Warren fell for it when he grabbed his face on a face off. Your supposed to see the act, not call the embellishing act. Dean Warren has to go with [referee] There must be a way to get rid of this guy. Is there a way we can tract (sic) and total minors called by referees this year. We could then get the minors they call per game. … or with 2 [referees on the ice] it is impossible? Warren and [referee] out of [club’s] games. Give them to [referees].

 

a little amateur sleuthing yielded the result that marc savard is the "little fake artist" and the player who got called for his third minor penalty of the game is gregory campbell, who happens to be colin campbell's son.

 

AND ANOTHER:

 

Game not televised. Radio announcers said it was a [expletive] penalty…you need to find out for me. How…I don’t know but this was awful. 1:30 left in 2-1 game for [team] and [player] scored with 2 second left to tie it up them won in OT. [expletive]

Not that I am shocked, but this is the guy who hands out suspensions and other discipline in the NHL. Seems that the person who is in charge of such things wouldn't be the type of guy who is obviously petty and holds grudges.

offensive depth is even more impressive, to me. rolling a third line of JVR - richards - zherdev is ridiculous. on how many teams in the league can that be your first line?

 

if you're doing power rankings, it's hard not to put them #1 right now, and Det/Wash/LA/Van all somewhere in the next 4
