if we want to talk about preventing the abuse of loopholes that occur after the season is over, let's talk about teams trading players they have no intention of keeping for draft picks. after all, this actually occurs after the season is over, both the fantasy season and the mlb season. that seems like a much bigger deal than me picking up a minor leaguer during the season.
I've got a better idea for talking. Let's talk about you stopping your insufferable pouting EVERY DAMN TIME you don't get your way. GROW UP and stop ruining the fun.

i'll give you ben sheets if you stop posting.

I'll give you a thumbs up if you just quit this league.

ps - if anybody's whining about not getting their way, it's you and robert. i picked up a minor leaguer while the mlb season was still going on. there is no rule against it (at least there wasn't when i did it), so i get to keep him. you're the ones whining about it, not me.

you seem to want to establish a system where rules are retroactively created solely to punish me. if that makes you feel better, then we can do it that way.

Here's a better counteroffer: You start playing by the same rules as the rest of us without whining about it and I'll promise never to mention the name Ben Sheets in this league again.

counter-counteroffer. you show me what rule i violated by picking up eric young jr and i'll give you ben sheets, eric young jr and season 1 of undercover boss on dvd.

that's pretty fair.

We could keep this going back and forth for a long time.

I'm done in this thread, though (at least for now). I've had my say.

You didn't break a written rule, but I believe you did break an unwritten rule.

If you made those roster moves while your team was still competing, I don't think anyone could argue with making those moves. That your team is no longer competing this season and any add on would be to benefit you next year or as trade bait in the offseason, it is my belief that you should not be able to add on players.

If every team started cherry picking players off the free agent wire to fill every empty hole on their roster, it really limits the teams still competing in playoffs as to who they can add to help them finish out the season. Did I want or do I need EY Jr.? No. But, to allow you to make this move means I have to allow every other manager to do the same thing, and I don't want to do that.

Juan designated a few years ago that no offseason trades can be made until the offseason is over. There was a good reason for that. So, while Tim has to wait until my team is done playing this week to pillage the top draft picks via trades, you shouldn't be able to add players once your team's season is over. I consider that more of an unwritten rule because it's not something every team, or even a lot of teams have done this year or in previous years that I can recall.

I'm a big fan of playing within the spirit of the rules and not looking for loopholes or advantages over the other teams in the league.

we should write it down then. because if you say i can't have him even though i clearly did nothing against the rules (though it was apparently against your unwritten rule), it smacks of you retroactively applying a random rule simply because you don't like me. if that's how you want to come off, go ahead and take him off my roster.

sorry, but dumping players you have no intention on keeping on weaker teams to pillage their draft picks is the biggest example of exploiting a loophole i can possibly think of. you're trading a free agent. but it's not against the rules (much like picking up EY was not against the rules) so life goes on.

i have a great sleeper in mind for the draft next year, but i don't know if i should take him because i wouldn't want to look for an advantage over the other teams.

This has nothing to do with liking someone or not. When I wrote the rule I wrote last week, I had no idea anyone had made any moves after their season was over. Don't give me so much credit to think I sit there and watch the transaction wire that closely, Adam.

Each team has so many roster spots available. Whether you decide to use all those roster spots during the regular season is entirely up to you. When the season is over, we don't know which players we want to keep and which ones we wish to remove. Offseason trading might help make that decision easier. You cannot compare the two.

Since it's clear you want to make this a personal issue rather than simply doing what's right, I'll go ahead and remove him from your roster since you won't. But, it disappoints me that you don't wish to play by the same rules the rest of us are playing. Whether I like you or not really doesn't come into play here. Other than the few times each year where you whine loudly if you don't get your way or someone else is breaking a rule, you're not a bad fantasy baseball manager to have around here.

But, I guess you want to make more of this than there needs to be, and that's on you.

and the regular season is still ongoing. thus how i use my rosters spots is up to me.

i AM playing by the same rules as everyone else. these rules

http://roadkill123.baseball.cbssports.com/rules. i guess i didn't follow your arbitrary "unwritten rules" or abide by your "integrity of the game" [expletive]. but if you feel the need to retroactively apply rules to me and me only, i guess enjoy your power trip and take eric [expletive] young jr off my [expletive] roster.

Jesus [expletive] Christ, Adam. How many times do I need to explain that the season is over for you. Your team is not playing. Do you see Tim adding players? Do you see Raisin adding players? Do you see anyone other than Al adding players? And let's discuss why they aren't adding players. They aren't adding players because their season is over and they have integrity and a sense of fair play. You do not possess these traits. Your only interest appears to be to play by a different set of rules than everyone else is playing by, and ones that give you an advantage over the others. Damn straight I'm taking EY off your roster, and if it's because you think I'm on some sort of power trip, go right ahead and keep believing it. I gave you the opportunity to drop him and since it's apparent you don't wish to do what's right, I'll be happy to do it for you.

i'm assuming you're forwarding all your self-righteous, "integrity of the game," condescending, "i'm so disappointed in you" business al's way since he has tarnished our great league in the same way i have by breaking your unwritten rule.

Jesus, Adam.

I've exploited loopholes before and been swatted down. But I didn't cry about it for days and went along with the decision of the commish. Hell, probably 1/4 of the rules in place are because of things I did that we didn't have rules about. But when Juan threw up a flag and said something was outside the spirit of the league, I went along.

Play nice or move along to a league that fits your style better if you don't like the rules here.

Al will get a light slap on the wrist for making what was surely an honest mistake, since he isn't constantly looking for ways to get advantages over the other teams in the league.

Seconded!

so what's the rule? NO team can pick up and keep ANY player once the fantasy regular season is over?

The rule is:

It is too late to add players to your roster once YOUR team's season is over.

Hell, nothing was given to Adam but a light slap on the wrist, either. It's not like you've taken his first round pick away or something.

To make it fair, should playoff teams that make moves during the postseason not be allowed to keep any player they pick up during that time?
