He was amazing in August, but he [expletive] sucked for most of this month and July. June was also wretched, May was pretty bad, but April was amazing, too.

I really have no idea what to make of him at this point.

speaking of kosuke, he's been quite good in the second half, which is weird because we all know that he completely falls apart every year after the all star break.

Fukudome has the strangest career month splits I think I have ever seen for someone who has over 1500 PA's already. He has 2 months with an OPS over .830 (including a .973!) and two months that are below .630. That's pretty hard to do. That's not a knock on him but it's fascinating trivia.

no, wins are pretty much the worst statistic. why on earth are you basing an argument around wins?

last year he made 28 starts with an ERA in the high 3's and only won 9 games... something should jump out at you (like he should win more than 30% of his games when he's pitching reasonably effectively. here are a few results from last year:

6 IP, 3 ER, no decision

7 IP, 3 ER, loss

6.1 IP, 1 ER, ND

8 IP, 1 ER, ND

7 IP, 3 ER, ND

7 IP, 3 ER, ND

7 IP, 1 ER, ND

6 IP, 2 ER, loss

7 IP, 1 ER, ND

6 IP, 1 ER, ND

6 IP, 2 ER, ND

there's 11 quality starts where he had a record of 0-2. the offense didn't score many runs for him last year (2 runs or fewer in 10 of his 28 starts) and the bullpen blew too many of his games. that's why he won only 9 games.

your argument also conveniently ignores that he won 16 games a year from 2006-08 (two of those years the cubs could actually score runs to support him).

Well, I will retract. This is good statistical proof that perhaps I have my head up my ass. I'd say his head is maybe a quarter or two, though. Good work, sir.

As far as the farm OFers I listed - they COULD contribute, for much less. That is the point I'm trying to make. It is outside of reality, and just saying.

You're right, they could contribute, but it's pretty unlikely given their track records. And Kosuke almost certainly will contribute, which is a much, much better scenario.

After 3 years of pretty similar results - short of a huge last three games - what you see is what you get.

Great in March/April - decent enough in May (less so this year) and then he is all over the place but there is always two months in the last four where he is absolutely absymal.

Heard that Z has now changed his mind and will NOT waive his no trade until after the Cubs win the World Series.

Regardless if he changed his mind or not, they need him next year to be competitive.

What?? That's not a pattern at all.

-The first season he steadily declined throughout the year.

-Last year he was good for 2 months, sucked for 1 , good for 2, sucked for one.

-This year he was great for 1, sucked for 3, great for 1, sucked for 1.

Yea big Z in the rotation all year will do nothing but help, I think Demp has proven he is a solid #2/great#3. Adding 1 more pitcher to the mix like a Tim Hudson would make for a very solid 1-2-3, use Wells in trade and have Gorz and Cashner fill out back of rotation.
