Secretly hoping for one of the hilarious scenarios that would result in the Hawks having home ice in the SCF.

It's great to be in the playoffs, but that's why losing that game yesterday hurt. Would have had a much better chance of getting some home ice if they manage to get past Vancouver.

Well of course we wouldnt be playing Vancouver if we lost that game. Unless you mean if we got past Vancouver in the 2nd round.

The way I look at it is, we get to find right off the bat whether we can compete in these playoffs. We were going to have to face Vancouver in the 2nd round if we won, so might as well get them right off the bat before they have any momentum from winning a playoff series. The fans will tell you they are glad they got Chicago becuase they want to knock us out. But in reality I'm sure a majority of them wanted Dallas. If we can put any doubt into the minds of the Canucks players, if we can take 1 of the first two in Vancouver, if we can bully them a bit and get them off their game, it becomes any team's series.

My gut says Vancouver in 6, but my heart says Chicago in 6.

Yeah that was dumb. I just meant we'd have had a better chance of getting some home ice if they won their first-round matchup.

Actually, if I remember correctly, CSN showed some of the games early in the playoffs last year even when they were also on Vs. I could be wrong, but I think I remember Vs. only have exclusive coverage later in the playoffs.

Yup...I believe game 1 is on CSN exclusively in the USA

Random question....

Would you guys agree that Brent Seabrook actually had a better season than Keith?

As far as the eye test goes, it certainly looked like it. His offensive contributions were better than Keith's as well.

Bottom line is Keith had a really disapointing season and I hope he picks it up for the playoffs.

Edit: Just one stat for comparison. In 08-09, Keith was +33 for the year. Last year he was +21. This year -1. I don't usually take too much stock in +/- unless there is a significant drop off like that.

Yeah, +/- stats should come with a huge asterisk. When you try to put a teams struggles or successes on one player, you are opening up a whole can of worms. The only time I really look at it is when comparing gamechanging players whose team revolves around them.

From that article....Vancouver's ranks this season:

Goals scored: 1st

Goals allowed: 1st

Power Play: 1st

Penalty Kill: 2nd

Hawks:

Goals scored: 4th

Goals allowed: 12th

Power play: 4th

Penalty Kill: 25th (do we miss Sopel that much??)

what does Sopel have to do with anything? He was painful to watch most of the season. He did show up for the playoffs it seemed like Hjalmerson had to bail him out a lot last season. What the Hawks missed was Keith being reluctant to block shots for the first 2 months of the season.

Sopel's only value is he was good on PKs last year, especially with regards to getting in front of shots and sacrificing his body.

Sopel, Madden and Ladd were all huge losses to our PK unit.

Overall, Ladd and Madden were huge losses.

Damn that team last year was good. The depth is mind-boggling.

I would say that the disappointing seasons of Keith and Hammer, which has been largely undiscussed by mainstream media, is a huge reason why the Hawks had the time of season they did.

Hammer regressed to a level worse than last years regular season and Keith has been inconsistent as anyone.

As said earlier stealing a game in Vancouver is huge(especially if its game 1). Puts that seed of doubt in their minds from their head coach to Bobby Lou, to the Sisters, all the way down, who are in my opinion nothing but mental midgets. Just this year the Hawks beat them 7-1 there, and if not for two terrible goal/no goal calls winning 3 of 4 against them this year. I think its Hawks in 6 then on to San Jose. Edited by Brian707

I wouldnt be suprised if Hammer is traded this offseason to free up cap space. The Hawks strength in their farm system is on the blueline.

In retrospect, re-signing Hammer to that massive extension was the worst move of the offseason. Of course, that's the one move that everyone seemed hell-bent on making (myself included).

I'm all for Hammer being traded in the offseason.

Agreed.... and it sucks. He was one of my favorite guys last year. Too bad he got Nathan Vasher syndrome.

Everytime I say I wish we didn't sign him, I remember that if we didn't sign him we were surely going to sign Niemi with the money. Not that I hate Niemi but Crawford has done just fine for us. So I don't regret the opportunity cost of signing Hammer.

I'm already set, but there are a lot of tickets available for game 6 on the 24th in the 300 level. Comes to about 94 a ticket after charges.

Damn, they weren't that expensive last year
