If the Hawks were down 1 point to Calgary with 2 games in hand I'm certainly going to say that the Hawks are ahead. Temporary the Flames are ahead because they've accumulated more points than the Hawks. When the Hawks make up those games and take the lead, then they will move ahead and be considered ahead of the Flames.

It does suck, but they are pretty much toast at this point. Up a point with three games in hand, I feel pretty good. Looking at the standings now, that loss in Dallas the other day really stings.

it's getting seriously unbelievable how every game between western conference playoff contenders goes to OT. almost EVERY night those teams play each other, it goes to ot.

At least the Preds and Ducks didn't go into OT! That means for the first time in what feels like a month, a playoff contender played a game and couldnt earn a single point.

Nashville: 9-2-2, points in 11 of last 13

Phoenix: 8-1-1, points in 9 of last 10 games

 

Excluding Calgary, who is slumping badly and needs a miracle to stay in the race, there are 6 teams fighting for 5 spots.

 

The combined streaks of the 6 teams fighting for the playoffs is 56-14-14. That means that these teams have gotten points in 70 of their last 84 possible games. Overall they've taken 128 of the 168 available points over that span. Considering at least 1 game matchup up 2 of these teams seems to happen every night, that's amazing. If you take away 2 wins, and make it an 82 game stretch (a season), that team would get 124 points. No team in the NHL can reach 124 points this year.
