I was at the Hawks/Cap game, and the Caps fans were pretty happy to come out with 2 points, even though I thought they were the better team. It's pretty funny to read/hear different opinions. 1 point against both Tampa and Washington is fine, it was the opportunity against Florida that was really troubling. Still, it's done. Lots of points to be had, just need to continue playing solid hockey and keep accumulating them.

Anaheim won tonight, meaning that we are 3 points clear of a playoff spot. Actually the team that's 3 points behind us is Calgary who we have 2 full games in hand on, so its not even that bad. Also, Nashville is 4 points back of the Hawks.

Detroit beat Washington tonight, lessening the already tiny chance we can catch up to Detroit before the end of the season.

I feel like a broken record, but tomorrow's game is huge once again. That said, its not as big as a few others have been this year. Dallas is 2 points behind us right now for the 6th seed.

We should probably win tomorrow though because a majority of our competition have favorable matchups (for them). Phoenix is playing hapless Edmonton, Calgary is playing equally hapless Colorado, Los Angeles is playing the slumping Blues, barely relevant at this point Minnesota is playing San Jose, and Nashville is playing Boston

I'd say that at the very least, the last three weeks of action has thinned out the number of teams that can realistically make the playoffs from 14 to 10, as Colorado, St. Louis, Columbus and Minnesota are a ways back now.

I have a feeling I'm the only one watching this game, and I'm happy to make the sacrifice so you don't have to. Yeesh.

I'm flipping back and forth between this and the tournament. I'm not quite sure as to what the defense is doing.

No I am. Way to give up a goal in the last 3 minutes of the first and first minute of the 2nd.

3-0 now.

This sucks..this was a really big night and were getting crushed.

Yeah, I understand why Crawford was pulled, but none of this was his fault. Absolutely lazy defense and backchecking. You could see that 3-on-2 coming from a mile away, and I'm sure the forwards on the ice could too.

So far Boston and Nashville are tied, Detroit is winning, Calgary is up 2-1 over hapless Colorado. So no help on that front either.

Since the best case scenario is looking out of the question, here is what it would look like if everything went wrong tonight:

1. Vancouver 103 (72)
2. Detroit 94 (71)
3. San Jose 89 (72)
4. Los Angeles 87 (71)
5. Phoenix 87 (72)
6. Dallas 84 (71)
7. Chicago 84 (71)
8. Calgary 83 (73)
-----------------------
9. Nashville 82 (71)
10.Anaheim 81 (70)
11.Minnesota 79 (71)

Nashville, Phoenix, Dallas (obviously) and Calgary all won.

The only thing going our way is St. Louis is somehow beating LA 2-0 after 2. If things hold, this is how the race will look.

1. Vancouver 103 (72)

2. Detroit 94 (71)

3. San Jose 88 (72)*tied 2-2 with Minnesota

4. Phoenix 87 (72)

5. Los Angeles 85 (71)*down 2-0 against St. Louis

6. Dallas 84 (71)

7. Chicago 84 (71)

8. Calgary 83 (73)

-----------------------

9. Nashville 82 (71)

10.Anaheim 81 (70)

11.Minnesota 77 (71)*tied 2-2 with San Jose

Probably the most damaging day for playoff chances/positioning in awhile.

God dammit every [expletive] team wins every damn game in the West race.

Today, Nashville beat Detroit, now Dallas lost in a SO against Philly. You'd expect those teams to take care of business. Also Anaheim and LA are playing each other so one team will get 2 points.

Hawks are now tied for the 7th/8th seed and 1 point ahead of Calgary for being out of the playoffs (but 2 games in hand)

If Anaheim wins tonight they will also be one point behind the Hawks but with equal games played.

Phoenix is 5 points ahead of the Hawks for the 4 seed (2 games more), if LA wins tonight they will be 3 points ahead of the Hawks (1 game more), Dallas is 1 point ahead of us with 1 game more.

The Hawks absolutely need to win tomorrow. If they don't they'd better start sweating. A road game against Phoenix, who is red hot, does not look promising.

Anaheim won last night over Dallas (in OT of course so both got at least a point)

If the Hawks don't win tonight they will likely find themselves in 9th or 10th place the next time they take the ice.

Campbell out again tonight. Bolland too, and honestly, he may go the way of Kim Johnsson this season.

Bickell should be back though. Team isn't deep enough to handle these injuries.

If you want to tamp down on head shots and head injuries, simply don't allow the player who committed the suspendable offense to take the ice until the injured player recovers. Harsh, yes. And does nothing to punish clean hits.

I've never liked that approach, because it doesn't really measure the intent at all, just the outcome. So what if Bertuzzi did what he did and Steve Moore got up and skated off just fine? I suppose you could have a minimum suspension still, but I think you have a look at what the guy did, not the result.

Yes, I agree... that's why I added the idea of suspendable offense. I didn't consider that not all such actions injure someone, so I'd add a mandatory minimum. If the NHL were reliable with their discipline, I would do neither. A competent and fair system should take care of that without resorting to extreme measures. But we all know Colin Campbell and his "Wheel of Justice" is anything but competent or fair.

This is really the point. It's ridiculous that the NHL can't put someone in this position who can apply common sense and some consistency.

Perfect example from just a few hours ago:

Let's see what Campbell does with this. Yes the player got right up and I haven't heard anything yet, but he seemed okay. Just the same, this was as much of a clear intent to injure as Bertuzzi's hit.

How does should Cooke get? Especially considering his history?

I'd say 10 games.
