Since the Hawks won the Cup, I've had a new co-worker from Philly take up residence in the cube next to mine. I have called him over repeatedly to show him things like the SC engraving the other day, and now the ring. I just want him to see what would have happened if they won, why is he so angry?

Worse for him is the Flyers are really not a cup contender and probably won't be for several years...really can't see them fluking in again anytime soon.

I didn't like what they did in the offseason. I thought people said that they would be a challenger this year though. I mean anything's possible in the East.

i don't see any reason why Philly would fall very far

they should have tried harder to upgrade their goaltending situation (Antti Niemi), but the rest of that team is awesome

Like UM said, the best thing going for them is they play in the East. Even if they did somehow make the finals it would be to lose in 6 or less. I will say that Chris Pronger does have a tendency to play for teams that really underachieve in the regular season to then become monsters in the playoffs.(Edmonton and Anahiem)

Man, I'm having an intense argument with a Pittsburgh friend over who most deserved the Best Forward award during the 2010 Olympics, Toews or Crosby.

By definition Toews deserves everything and Crosby, a stick in the eye.

Simple!

22 games versus 13.

His entire argument is that there's a bias against Crosby and he never wins any awards where there's any argument for someone else. He also used this year's Hart Trophy going to Sedin as an example of this bias.

Crosby is a very polarizing player, so I think there may be some merit to his argument. Toews was the best forward in the Olympics last season.

Beach and Makarov were re-assigned to Rockford today. Morin and Leddy are going to have a shot to make the opening night roster. Pretty impressive.

i don't know how ai feel about that. leddy is expensive to keep in chicago.

i also wish we would keep beach up. morin really intrigues me, he's gotten very good reviews. but keeping both morin and leddy around for a whole season would put us right up against the cap.

Someone give me a little info on that 4th line. I know that Skille used to be considered a prospect and then, not so much. That's about it.

He's still really young. He's obviously not going to be the type of player that many thought he was going to be when he was drafted, but there's no reason why he can't be a good 4th liner for us this year.

some pre-season predictions from puck daddy. Not a lot of love for the Hawks. Here is my top 8 prediction in the West

1. Canucks-may not be best but have the easiest division in the West

2. Red Wings-homer pick

3. Sharks-honestly I think that 2 and 3 will be exciting because of how good 4 and 5 are going to be.

4. Kings-I think they will have a great fight with the Sharks for the division.

5. Hawks- to be honest I dont really want to argue with Hawks fans about this, but I think they will struggle at times this season because of their lack of depth. They however will be primed come playoff time to make another run in my opinion. Also, Kopecky on the top line!?!? But their top talent is the best in the league and will fight for division crown.

6. Flames-will make 6 because of crappy division

7. Preds- because they always do

8. Avs- or Blues or Coyotes....cant see anyone else even thinking about making playoffs

I hate making playoff predictions before the season because you just never know who will get hurt, traded, dramatically improve or decline. So I will just pick the Wings for my homer reasons

as for the East...who cares

No one's gonna argue that the Hawks are going to keep going without missing a beat this season NUN. Depth is a huge factor in hockey, and its one of the reasons the Hawks were as good as they were the last 2 years, especially last year. They easily have enough talent to be a middle tier playoff team, and as far as the playoffs go, there's a lot for us to learn before we can determine that.

i'm glad people are underestimating the hawks.

I just posted the Yahoo site...there are plenty of hockey journalists out there who believe the Hawks will defend the Cup. I think come playoff time when depth is not quite as important(unless there are a lot of injuries) and the Hawks young players have a season under their belts they will be a very tough team to beat.

I havent seen a single hockey journalist that has predicted that the Hawks will repeat.

I've seen maybe 1 out of 5 pick the Hawks to win the central. I don't even think I've seen any pick the Hawks to win the West. Granted I've only looked at maybe a grand total of 25 different predictions but still.

I've seen picks anywhere from 2nd in the division to 1st in the west. I really don't think many people are understimating them, because there is no legit reason to understimate them. They lost none of their best players and acquired as many interesting depth players as they gave up.
