We passed Washington and Kansas City today and are currently #5.

#6, no?

Oops; you're right. Behind Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Seattle, Arizona, and Cleveland.

Were in some good company, and I have a feeling that we may have to get used to it for the next few years.

Remember, the Diamondbacks have the 7th pick locked up and the Padres have the 10th pick locked up.

At the rate they're curently going, they could even end up in the top half of the division.

Completely unacceptable.

Fecal League standings have been updated. If the season were to end today, the Cubs would be picking at #9 (instead of #8 due to the Diamondbacks having a compensation pick at #7 for not signing Barret Loux). Barring a late season miracle, the Cubs will likely be staying in that spot.

Top 10 picks in the first round are protected, correct? Meaning the Cubs would not have to forfeit the pick as compensation if they sign a highly regarded free agent?

Top 15 picks are protected if one of those teams sign a type A free agent. This upcoming season, there will actually be 18 picks protected, due to the Diamondbacks, Padres, and Brewers failing to sign their 2010 1st round picks.

With one series to go, there are 7 teams with worse records than the Cubs and Arizona will make 8, since they automatically get the 7th pick next year. That said, if we sweep the Astros, we'll finish with a better record than them, which I think would drop us 2 spots and not just 1. Because the Pads will automatically have the 10th pick, due to Whitson not signing. Bottom line is don't sweep the Astros to end the season and lose us 2 more spots in the draft.

You are correct.

Knowing this team, they'll blow it. They even suck at knowing when to suck.

Davell is right - the Padres are locked in at 10.
