Can you imagine what the Cubs could net for a package of Soto and Castro? I know it's not going to happen,if it did I would hate the Cubs, but you could make the farm filthy ridiculously good.

You're correct, but sometimes you gotta stand pat. Good young ML-ready SS and C talent is insanely hard to come by. Which is why we could stock up the farm, agreed, but I don't think anyone would be wililng to deplete the farm for those guys. And I don't think there's anyone who has enough talent to do it. Or, if they did, you'd essentially be selling them for lottery tickets.

Oh I'd be extremely pissed off if either was dealt, it's just a fun thought. Between the two of them I'd bet you could land 4 or 5 top 75 prospects.

Or we could use them to build a team around.

This is obviously what I'm in favor of. In fact I'm pretty happy about most of young players including Dewitt. As I said, it was just a fun thought about the huge return they could get. In no way shape or form do I endorse any of them being traded or playing anywhere other than Chicago for the next decade.

Also agreed. I'm not in favor of trading them at all, I just agreed with the statement that they'd bring a ridiculous haul in prospects.

One wonders why our offense has been so bad this year. Here is how our starting 8 are projected to finish the season:

Tyler Colvin .258 26 HR 60 RBI RF .320 .535
Starlin Castro .318 5 HR 54 RBI SS .364 .458
Derrek Lee .252 18 HR 78 RBI 1B .337 .393
Aramis Ramirez .223 27 HR 87 RBI 3B .275 .426
Marlon Byrd .316 15 HR 71 RBI CF .378 .471
Alfonso Soriano .263 29 HR 87 RBI LF .326 .522
Geovany Soto .286 24 HR 73 RBI C .398 .519
Blake DeWitt .276 3 HR 57 RBI 2B .353 .386

Maybe its the fault of the guy making the lineups. Your 3-4 hitters really shouldnt have the lowest averages and close to the lowest OPSs in the lineup. I dont know how many other teams have number a 3 hitter with an OPS of .730, but if there are, I doubt they're in contention.

That corner infield production has got to be amongst the worst in baseball. There's also been pretty minimal production outside of the starters, except Fukudome who hasn't been great himself. Theriot and Hill got a lot of ABs, Nady, Tracy, Baker were bad all year.

Lee is next to last in OPS of the 25 qualified 1b, Ramirez isn't qualified but would be 3rd from the bottom ahead of Tejada and Jose Lopez. Smoak and Lopez are both last on the list, so Seattle wins.

Keeping Derrek in the 3 spot is just ridiculous. Respecting a guy is one thing, but when you have at least 4 guys who profile much better there (5, since Ramirez's resurgence), there is just no justification.

The most frustrating was the Theriot-Lee-Ramirez because it gave a ton more at bats to the 3 worst hitters on the team (aside from the every other day K. Hill was playing). Despite Colvin not being a leadoff guy by any means, the one thing I like about the current construction is that Colvin/Castro max out their plate appearances.
