The 2010 Open at St. Andrews

Up a couple hours early for my favorite golf tournament of the year and John Daly is playing like it's 1995. -7 through 14 and has missed some opportunities on the last few holes. Scoring conditions are pretty easy this morning. Cool and misty with soft, slow greens and not a lot of wind.

Tiger is off to a decent start (-2 through 7) and I like his chances better this week than the previous two majors. He'll be able to hit driver without penalty on most holes even though he's gone iron off the tee on a handful of par 4's this morning.

as soon as I say that he bogeys 17

First real miss of the day. Terrible tee shot on 17 but great recovery and then lag putt which would have made it a great par.

Rory was just on point with everything. Should have made his putt on 17 for 62. Still going to be lots of low scores today.

The way it works. He's going to birdie 18 here and be extremely happy at 6 under. When the wind picks up this afternoon, these morning scores are going to be really solid.

Not sure on the weather tomorrow, but chances are they come back to earth since these will be afternoon times.

Pulled the birdie putt left to finish at -5.

Hes still got to be pretty happy. Hopefullly he can turn it on and become Tiger again.

I like to watch the majors on TV but the over-the-top coverage of the "hallowed St. Andrews" makes it unwatchable. After every freaking shot there is some human interest or history story. It's disgusting.

I watch most of these with the sound down, at least until late Saturday and late Sunday.

The British might be my favorite tournament to watch.

Tiger playing well- completely expected. I can't believe how many people counted the guy out after he played like crap in the first 2 majors and got top 5 both times. His favorite course in the world.

Great to see JD in the hunt. We'll see how long that lasts.

Phil Mickelson- let's face it. The guy simply does not have the game for links golf. Unreal that he was one of the betting favorites. He has 1 top 10.

Should get really interesting tomorrow when the weather is supposed to be horrible.

I've never played in Scotland, but having played at Bandon Dunes this past year, I think I have a completely new impression of links golf.

I've played a couple of championship level links courses in America. I don't think I'd play golf at all if that was all that was available.

I could play a real links course every single day. And I've never played any course that resembled Bandon Dunes, even courses that are hyped as "links" courses. You can't build a course with that kind of hard ground, they type of grass, that kind of wind, that kind of weather just anywhere.

Agree with almost all of this post. Since the knee injury he's gone T6, T6, Cut, 2, T4, T4. People want Phil to do well over there and I think they bought in to his optimism and love of the course. I'd love to see Daly hang but he's just as likely to post 80 as 70 tomorrow.

I would love to get over there and play true links golf someday. I've enjoyed the cheap imitations that I've played over here. Love hitting punch shots and playing bump and runs.

I plan on watching quite a bit of this tournament in the morning hours this weekend. Wait, is there any live coverage or are they holding it for the afternoon?

Yes, they always have live coverage, and then more or less replay the round later in the afternoon.

Okay yeah, ESPN has it. Excellent.

All of the live coverage is on ESPN. 6A-1:30P on Saturday and 5A-12:30P Sunday. ABC will have the highlights/replay from 2-5.

Does DirecTV have the 4 channel thing going on?

Yeah. One of the channels has 1 & 18, another has the road hole and the third is the BBC feed. 17 could be fun to watch. When I was home this morning I only watched it on ESPN but the BBC broadcast could be alright for a change.

Went golfing yesterday, had some cocktails and completely forgot the Open was starting the next day. Woke up for a tinkle at 4am, found myself awake and flipped some channels and found early action for day one. Awesome. Not quite interesting enough to keep me awake the rest of the morning, however.

Carreer starts when Tiger used his Scotty Cameron 2: 186

Career wins when Tiger used his Scotty Cameron 2: 86

It will be interesting to see if Tiger keeps the Nike putter in his bag after this tournament. John Daly has a dumbfounding swing. I have never seen a guy who overswings like he does control his shots. On his backswing, Daly's shaft almost rests on his back for a second ( :D ). But he was very accurate with his short stuff today.

If Tiger sticks with this putter, Nike will sell zillions of them. Completely validating their decision to stick with him as the face of their company. Cheater or not, the man can sell golf clubs.
