Oakland Designates Eric Patterson For Assignment

By Mark Polishuk [June 22 at 6:21pm CST]

Outfielder Eric Patterson has been designated for assignment by the Athletics, according to the team's official Twitter page. The move comes as a result of Coco Crisp's activation from the disabled list.

Patterson joined the A's in 2008, coming from Chicago as a part of the Rich Harden trade. Patterson had a slash line of .221/.299/.339/ in 325 plate appearances with the team over the last three seasons. With a .641 lifetime OPS and a below-average UZR/150, it's hard to see another club making a move for Patterson unless they need a pinch-runner --- Patterson is 22-for-24 in career stolen base attempts.

Not a good month for ex-Cubs prospects. Patterson joins Jake Fox, Renyal Pinto, and Brian Dopirek as former Cubs prospects that have been DFAd.

I remember that when E Patt was coming up in the farm system, he was supposed to be alot better than C Patt. Another example of not being able to develop players.

I don't think he was supposed to be a lot better. EPatt just walked more. And played 2B.

He wasn't, at one point Corey was the number 2 prospect in all of baseball behind Josh Hamilton.

You remember wrong. Eric Patterson lost most of his value when it was determined he couldn't handle 2nd base. He lost a little more value when the Cubs decided to teach him a lesson for showing up 15 minute late, or whatever it was. Still, he helped to net the Cubs Harden, who I really liked, so it wasn't all bad.
