I'd much rather trade Silva.

So would I, but aside from DeRosa, when has Hendry sold high on a player?

Barrett comes to mind immediately.

Not after the fight with Zambrano. I think it was fairly common knowledge that Barrett was going to go after that.

They were about 6 months late to trade him high. He was awful that year for the Cubs and after the fight they were just dumping.

I know this doesn't make Theriot anymore valuable, but the Tigers were playing Adam Everett at SS, so anything they would get out of Theriot improves their lineup.

Seriously. The folks that think Theriot's worthless seem to be unaware of just how many awful SS are getting regular ABs around MLB. The league's littered with the likes of Everett, Lugo, Izturis, Brendan Ryan, Betancourt, O Cabrera, Cliff Pennington, etc etc. Theriot would be an upgrade on several teams.

This is very true. I just hope that Jim isn't holding out hope for a climb in the standings still.

That doesn't make him right for this team. The Cubs are a top-tier payroll team with current better in-house options. Just because other teams send out crappy players doesn't mean every team has to.

I think you may have missed his point. Entirely.

I always miss his points. I was operating under the assumption he was thinking Theriot was somehow a lot more valuable than what he is.

Perhaps his point was Theriot holds trade value, because other teams could use him, despite the fact that he's next to useless for the Cubs.

I think he was just pointing out that he has more value to certain other teams than he does to us. Which, to me, means that he supports moving him, not keeping him on the Cubs

This was the point. Seems many here think he isn't worth the proverbial bag of balls in a trade.

When Tulowitzki went down, I thought this might work for both teams. I saw them beat up on the Brew Crew last weekend and looks like they have moved Barmes over to SS and playing Herrera at 2B. I don't think Barmes can handle SS defensively over the 6-8 weeks (although that was a pretty sweet play to end the game last night) and offensively he is not going to replace Tulo either (of course that would be difficult for anyone, but Barmes is a very limited offensive player already). Their options at 2B after the switch seem pretty limited as well.

Pure speculation in the article, but seems to make sense.

If I'm not mistaken, most metrics indicate that Barmes is decent defensively at SS.
