5/27 Dodgers (Ely) @ CUBS (Lilly) 1:20 CSN (XM 184)

Spot starting for Friendly Confines. He'll have it tomorrow win or loss.

Dodgers: Ely has been "found money" for the Dodgers in manager Joe Torre's eyes, and it's hard to argue. The rookie right-hander was called up at the end of April because the Dodgers were desperate for pitching, and all Ely's done is throw strikes. He went 89 batters without issuing a walk until the first inning of his last start, against the Tigers. That was his only walk in his last four starts. He went six innings, allowed two runs on eight hits and notched his third straight win. All five of Ely's starts have been six innings or longer. His velocity sits in the high-80s, but he's striking out batters too: 28 in 31 2/3 innings.

Cubs: In his previous start, against the Rangers on Friday night, Lilly pitched 6 2/3 innings while giving up two runs on six hits with four strikeouts in a 2-1 loss. In five career starts and one relief appearance against the Dodgers, Lilly is 3-1 with a 3.94 ERA. In three starts at home this season, he is 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA.

Ryan Theriot leading off is a [expletive] joke but then again our manager doesn't pay attention to stats so its not surprising in the least. No reason at all that Fuku isn't leading off and Theriot is hitting 8th. Its ridiculous how [expletive] stupid Lou is regarding lineup construction this year.

Oh and Jeff Baker vs a right handed pitcher instead of Fontenot is just plain genius also. Oh and let's sit Soriano when he's OPS'ing over 1.000 this month and just had a day off Monday.

Fontenot was hit in the right elbow with a fastball last night. My guess is that he is probably pretty sore and Baker is starting out of necessity.

My guess is Fontenot made an error at 3rd base last night so Lou is sitting him in favor of Baker. That's more like Lous "thinking".

Ha, this game should be big in Indianapolis as the starters are Ely and Lilly. Spelling is off, but they may have been able to get some sort of corporate sponsorship out of this one...

Yes! Ryan Theriot leading off again. You know, the same Ryan Theriot that is 16/75 (.213) the last 3 weeks complete with 0 walks and 0 XBH during that timeframe. IN case you’re keeping track that’s a .213/.213/.213 line

2+1+3=6, so 6/6/6, Theriot is the devil.

I can't believe I missed that, my brother works for them in Indy.

Also the Dodgers lineup looks pretty average with no Ramirez, Ethier, or Furcal

offense starting off putrid, as expected. Lilly has at least been great through two against the Dodger forfeit lineup.

Forfeit lineup vs Forfeit lineup should be fun. At least I'm just listening on the radio and not actually having to see this one.

john ely in his minor league career had a .270 BAA and 1.40 WHIP against LH batters, and a .237 BAA and 1.09 WHIP against RH batters. but hell let's play two RH batters who hit lefties way better than they hit righties while leaving two lefthanded batters on the bench. great managing you senile old turd.
