I'm assuming the funny part is Jeter. Was that a fan list or something an actual sportswriter came up with?

For the second straight year, Albert Pujols is No. 1, with Joe Mauer, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter and Lincecum rounding out the top five.

The list is compiled by 125 experts, including ex-players, managers, execs and media.

Jeter's not necessarily having a bad year, but he's nowhere near the top 5 overall. Heck, Cano might be the best player on the Yankees.

Longoria, Halladay, Cliff Lee, Chase Utley, Justin Morneau, and Adam Wainwright all deserve consideration before Jeter, at least.

utley should be the most glaring omission from that list. john dewan's website recently had an article suggesting that utley may be the best player in baseball, even better than pujols:

by most advanced statistics, utley has been the second best player in the game over the last five years, and there's one analysis that lists him as the best.
