Pre-2003 this team was hopeless waaaaaaaaaaaay more often than not.

But IMO they were comically bad, so I could laugh, this team doesn't provide any entertaining or redeemin g feature. They are boring and bad.

2001 was pretty hopeful at times, but when you got Matt Stairs and Ron Coomer anchoring your corner infield spots and Fred McGriff would rather play for TB than the Cubs, you couldn't help but laugh a little.

CUBS are 12-10 when their pitchers average 16 pitches per inning or less.... 2-9 when they don't

Go CUBS !!

Anyone have numbers on the predictive power of that stat or one like it?

If you're in the playoff hunt in August, the year wasn't that bad

2001 is probably my most memorable year as a Cubs fan for some reason (been a fan since 98). Probably because it came out of no where.

Yeah, I see your point. The "fun" of the bad Cubs seems to have been lost since 2003. I don't like the "lovable loser" crap, but pre-2003 they were just SO hopelessly inept that you just had to go with it. Since 2003 and 2004 it's just depressing and anger-inducing when they suck.

What the [expletive] was that, Wells? Bunt the [expletive] ball, you [expletive] [expletive].

Was it supposed to be a hit and run?

With the pitcher?

He was squared around to bunt, pulled the bat back and swung so it would seem Lou might have tried something. Who knows. LaRussa pulls it off 3 or 4 times a year. Maybe Lou was trying to surprise them.

Definitely. 1989 and 1998 were the same way for me. 1984 would have been the same, but that was the first year I really paid attention to baseball, so I kinda got set up for a let down.

The Cubs found some good luck! Come on Aram, tie this game up and then Sori can give them the lead. Edited by Ballgame64

I haven't run the regression on it, but from playing with that particular parameter for several years now, it does seem to be fairly constant. So I'm gonna say, without the numbers to back it up, that the correlation is pretty strong.

If I was my own batting coach I would suggest to myself that swinging as hard as I could in effort to pull a pitch that was low and away was a bad strategy...................

Wells bounced back nicely over the past 4 innings.

The pitch count has stayed low, too. Pretty good start, he just needs a few runs aka a miracle for a win

He was intimidated by your remark about taking him out of the rotation !!

edit: oops ! that wasn't you.

OK I'll buy that................ does Theriot get near any of the balls that Castro is making errors on?

Gets to them? Maybe. Turn any of those balls into outs? No. So the baserunners would still be on base, just different scoring results potentially.
