Woj tweeted that the Hawks offered a 6 year max Birds Right deal to Joe Johnson. It's good in the sense that he's not worth nearly that much but maybe bad in the Lebron sweepstakes.

Why is that bad in the Lebron sweepstakes? Or do you think Lebron won't want some scrub like Joe Johnson making more money than him?

Posted

There were some rumblings that Lebron and JJ really wanted to play together. In any case, it takes one more big fish off the board and part of attracting Lebron is being able to pair him up with another star, even if he's overpaid.

I don't think Joe Johnson is good enough where he can just turn down an extra guaranteed year at his age.

At least not here, that's for certain.

Varejao 8.6 PPG 7.6 RPG 0.9 BPG

Noah 10.7 PPG 11 RPG 1.6 BPG

take about 4 of those rebounds away from verajao and give them to noah if lebron decides to bring the brick show to town.

Not everyone can have dead-eye shooters at every position like the Bulls.

and add lebron to the mix and you have some serious rebounding numbers.

Everybody point and laugh at the Knicks...

The Knicks are targeting Joe Johnson as their No. 1 free agent choice and believe he's a better fit for the team than LeBron James, according to an NBA source with knowledge of the team's plans.

"Yes, we think he's a better player," the source said of Johnson. "He makes other people better. With LeBron's people running the locker room that hurts the organization."

The source also mentioned concerns about James' entourage taking over the franchise.

"I don't care what most people think," the source said. "I'm not saying that LeBron is not a good player, but other stuff comes with it. LeBron's friends want jobs. You're gonna lose running your organization. As time goes on you got to hire this guy, you got to hire that guy."

Somebody knows they aren't getting Lebron...

What if that source is GarPax? So slimy them too.

If LeBron can't guarantee another max player coming to Chicago/Miami/New York/NJ, then Cleveland makes just as much sense as anybody.

How do you figure that Cleveland's bench makes as much sense as a team with Noah and Rose?

Because Varejao is better than Noah. And because Williams+Jamison aren't really worse than Rose+Deng, and at the very least are better suited to LeBron's game.

Um...ok. That's not true though.

woah look at nba superfan here all of a sudden

at least let lebron sign with the bulls before you get all bandwagony

Maybe at winning regular season games.

If there's one thing this current Bulls team has proven, it's that it's a postseason juggernaut.

How many playoff games are the Mo Williams and Anderson Varejao led Cavaliers capable of winning? You realize that's the apples to apples comparison here.

I don't know, not a lot. Just like the Bulls. It just seems odd to go with the "way to not win the title Cavs" argument, when you're dealing with a roster that has a combined 1 playoff series win 4 seasons ago.

And without LeBron, the Cavs probably wouldn't even have any playoff appearances in the last 4 years

Well if that's the argument you go with to sway Lebron from Cleveland, wouldn't the obvious choice be to go to Miami, where they've actually won something? (assuming Wade is back)

why are you talking aobut [expletive] that happened several years ago to a completely different roster?

this isn't your best thread

Well we can talk about last year when the Heat were a better team.

If LeBron, Bosh, and Wade all sign with Miami, who the F would be left to fill out the roster? By all reports, Chalmers & Beasley would go to Toronto as part of a sign & trade.

I splurged too and got back into the season ticket holder racket (did it for two years in 06-07 and 07-08).

If any of the regulars have an interest in a share (be it 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, etc) let me know and we can share. You would be an equal partner, all games at face, proportionate playoff rights, and so on. Just shoot me a pm to discuss further. The seats are a pair in the $35 level.

That's exactly my point. After this supposed super-deal, they'd have like six players and no money.

They'd fill out the roster with ring chasing veterans willing to take the minimum. It wouldn't be pretty but it wouldn't really have to be.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Want your ring? Couldn't get it done? Join up with the super team for a season for peanuts before you retire.

I'm still trying real hard to wrap my head around the idea that Varejao (2009-10 PER 15.87 at PF), Williams (16.18) and Jamison (17.33 at PF) are better than Noah (17.96 at C), Rose (18.69) and Deng (16.14 at SF).

What's stranger about this notion is that even if the Bulls lose out on Bosh at 25.11 they will probably get Boozer at 21.42, which means - again - that they will have superior players to what Cleveland can offer to LeBron:

Rose (18.69)

James

Deng (16.14)

Bosh (25.11) or Boozer (21.42)

Noah (17.96)

vs.

Williams (16.18)

Delonte West (13.68)

James

Jamison (17.33)

Varejao (15.87)

Assuming the Boozer scenario, that's a total PER of 74.21 for the Bulls' supporting cast and 63.06 for the Cavs' supporting cast. And did I mention that Jamison is 34 yrs old with a recent history of nagging injuries?

Not to mention Jamison looked totally useless at the end of last year for the Cavs.

I dunno about that. Even LeBron, Bosh and (especially) Wade would get tired playing 44 minutes a night.

Which veterans are we talking here?

Oh, I forgot Patrick Ewing, Chuck Oakley and John Starks.
