What tradition is being thrown out the window?

The tradition of not having a trophy given out.

It was the day America lost its innocence.

Maybe tradition isn't the best word but handing out a trophy is breaking what has always been done. Rivalry trophies only work in in college football and that is only because they have a long history.

Not that I agree with this trophy being a good idea, but everything that it "old", "time honored" or anythingthing else of the sort, was at one time "new".

What has always been done? It's interleague regular season baseball. It's barely existed, and it's not like this trophy actually means anything outside of empty symbolism and bragging rights.

Money for the team that isn't from Toyota = win.

So foreign oil companies = :good:

While foreign car companies =

Got it. ](*,)

As someone who has done consulting work with pretty much every major auto company, I can say your perspective on the risks of driving vehicles from each company is highly skewed if you feel it's more dangerous to drive a Toyota.

then again, you thought they were the devil long before their recent issues.

I remember the last time I gave the series a second thought. I think it was 1999. Then again, I also watched BBTN back then and Sosa hadn't been run out of town yet.

Speaking of 1999, can you imagine how many Morandini jersey t-shirts they could have sold back then?

Those were the good ol' days. We were so young and naive.

If they want to do this, just give the White Sox the trophy and let them display it at the cell. It apparently means a lot more to them.

Where did you get that impression?

The White Sox are about as far from a "rival" as you can get for the Cubs. They are in a different division, in a different league, and play the Cubs 6 games a year. In the grand scheme of things, the White Sox are meaningless to the Cubs.

Plus, having frequented White Sox games, there is a lot of apparel being sold outside Sox games that is strictly "Cub hate" apparel. The reverse is not true.

From general observation, here's how it seems to work:

- The White Sox and Brewers fans have a weird inferiority complex with the Cubs.

- The Cubs fans have a weird (but understandable) inferiority complex with the Cardinals.

These aren't 100% absolutes, but definitely what you see from the average fan.

Ah ok, I thought you meant that Sox fans have been quoted as saying they can't wait next year to get the cup. I agree with the inferiority complex part, but I think their 2005 championship trumped them up quite a bit. Now it's like a "better than thou" attitude.

I'm talking about rivalries in general not one specific case with the White Sox. Rivalries in baseball don't have traveling trophies and shouldn't.

But it doesn't really mean anything.

Hence why I said I don't really care too much one way or the other. I have a preference but this isn't something I'm going to go crazy over.

Thanks for the compliment.

While I don't think this is cool like the Sox and Cubs probably hope it is/becomes I don't understand the outrage in this thread.

Stop exaggerating stuff. No one has been outraged some of us have just said it's not the best idea and would prefer it to not happen. No one is "outraged" although some are responding to posts as if the poster is outraged and thus trying to make it a bigger deal than anyone thinks it is.

Barf.

Get rid of interleague, please.

Why? Interleague play is great. I love seeing teams and players who I don't ordinarily get to see. The NFL, NBA, and the NHL all have "interleague play" so to speak. Why is it so bad for baseball? It's just crap like this trophy that needs to end.

Just not a fan. Outside of a select few match ups it's not terribly interesting and it's just yet another thing that complicates and already very complicated schedule. I always preferred it that the two leagues didn't meet until the WS.

Agreed. Interleague served it's purpose now it's just bleh. I rather take the games against the AL and give those games back to the NL teams.

A gimmick that would have made sense 10 years ago. Today? Not so much. I don't think many Cubs or Sox fans are all that more amped up for that series.

Then I don't think you know any Sox fans.
