Don't look now, but he leads the Cardinals in strikeouts, GIDP and stupid gaffs on the bases. Guess what his BA is right now? About .274

The league has picked up on it and he has not been given an IBB for 3 games...that has GOT to be a record.

I have never believed that he was a roider, but I'm convinced that he is about 35 years old. Why would he be the only Dominican to not lie about his age? The cool thing for the Cubs is that LaRussa will keep batting him in the 3 hole no matter HOW bad he does.

Those of you that know my posts know that I'm a Cub AND Card fan....but to tell you the truth, I'm getting sick to death of LaRussa and his lying ways. The hireing of that fat lying fraud as a hitting coach was next to the last straw.

There is no reason to think now that the Cards will walk away with the Central. Carpenter is not good this year. And it seems to be messing his mind up. He was plunked the other nite and went crazy, like the guy did it on purpose. Then, in his next start he drills Dero TWICE (and Mark got pissed as hell) Either his control is whacked, or his hatred for guy.

Then he went into 2nd base like Ty Cobb to do damage, but the ball beat him by 10 feet. It was laughable.....Lopez, the new switch hitter is only played when a lefty is going, and the best bench stick (Lugo) was traded away in spite of the fact that his salary was ZIP!

The Cards have only beat sub .500 teams, and the 1st time they play a good team, SF, they score 1 run in 2 games. I know it's early, but you can kiss them goodbye. It will be the Brews to concentrate on.

I see Zambrano going to the pen as a good thing at this point. But I surely would like to see Sori in another teams uni.

I could go further, but I don't want to bore. Thoughts?

thoughts? your post is 100% wrong and stupid.

Why? Give me a reason why. Because you don't WANT it to be true? He has struck out 14 times so far in April. 5 more times than in his rookie season, and this month is not over!

I understand your reluctance to admit that he is falling off, it's obvious that you don't see it. Time will tell. But get this: He has 1 more HR than little Rasmus who only plays against right handers, and has LESS walks not intentional. You see no problem there?

what about a guy who hit .189 in april with only 1 home run? surely we could write that person off, right?

If that's falling off, man, I wish the Cubs had more guys who were falling off like that.

I understand that, Nut's..but those are NOT Pujols like numbers....50 points below his career Ave? On a pace to strike out 120 times? Not to mention on a pace to lead the infield in errors?

And one more thing....you can check this: since Holliday joined the team his offensive numbers are down across the board. You would think with this exellent "protection" he would be even better.

But he is worse by a long shot. Coincedence? Nope.....he is no longer the [expletive] of the walk and his fragile 3rd world mind, along with his fat, heavy legged body can't deal with it. He is pressing like a rookie trying to make the team, and it shows.

Yes, all cubs fans don't want Pujols to be bad. Good call there.

his fragile 3rd world mind

He grew up in Independence Mo. I can see that.

You are kidding, Yes? You got him confused with Truman?

He moved to Mo. when he was "18"......but you kid don't you?

Is anyone else having issues with Baseball Reference? I'm trying to look up Pujols' splits and I keep getting an error message.

Well.... Magdal said he was making a whole lot of errors, didn't he ??? :D

I don't support blatant racism. Even in a sock account.

Well Carpenter did not hit Derosa twice, he did not even face him, Wainwright hit Derosa. Also Carpenter has a 3.60 era and 27 strikeouts in 22 innings, thats hardly struggling and most those runs were given up in the one bad start he had. He has been good in his other 3 starts. On Pujols he came to the US when he was 16 not 18 so you are wrong again. As far as his hitting goes there is no doubt that he is struggling a little bit right now, but he has gone through stretches like this in the past and he will come out of it just like he did all the other times and still put up MVP type numbers again.

There is all kinds of awesomeness in this thread.

-Pujols has fallen off, never mind he had his best season ever last season.

-Pujols has fallen off he is having a month slightly below his career average OPS for the first month of the season.

-Pujols has fallen off despite having two full months to begin the season in 2007 a lot worse than this season's April (.832, .916, respectively).

-Pujols has fallen off despite being on pace to beat his career high in HR's by 10 and career high in RBIs by 15.

And perhaps my favorite ...

"The league has picked up on it and he has not been given an IBB for 3 games...that has GOT to be a record."

His career high in IBBs is 44 which was last year. That happened in 160 games so that's roughly 1 every 4 games. hmmmmm But wait it gets better. He is 202 career IBBs in 1416 games which is less than 1 out of every 7.

Pujols career average is to go 6 games in between each IBB but going 3 games must be some kind of record.

Two last points:

-I don't care what anyone says there is no such thing as a Cubs/Cardinals fan. If you think you are a fan of both then you are a fan of neither in my book. Just my opinion though.

-Pujols' Baseball Reference page is indeed screwed up Nuts&Gum. I get an error message when going for his splits as well.

Very interesting....I did get Carpenter and Wainright mixed up. That certainly makes everything else I said moot.

And that the Cards have only beaten sub .500 teams is meaningless too..just a coincedence.

1. What makes everything else moot is all the stuff that has been posted showing Pujols hasn't really fallen off.

2. No one has argued about the Cards only beating sub-.500 teams. No one knows if that means anything yet. It's impossible to know until they play more above-.500 teams. What is known is that they were the favorites in the division and currently sit atop the division.

This is meaningless. He struck out 14 times in a month twice last year on his way to one of the best non-Bonds hitting seasons in recent memory.

His walks and homers are comparable to the kid who's carrying a 191 OPS+ at the moment despite a .277 BA. What's the problem there?

And that the Cards have only beaten sub .500 teams is meaningless too..just a coincedence.

Records are fairly meaningless right now and the Cardinals didn't make the schedule. If you take out the games against the Cardinals, the Mets and Brewers are over .500. So half their series have been against .500+ teams and they've won two of those. And again, a team's record after 3 weeks isn't a good indicator of talent level.

50 points below his career Ave?

Again this is meaningless. It's four hits.

Lopez, the new switch hitter is only played when a lefty is going

29 of his 49 PA are against RHP.

and the best bench stick (Lugo) was traded away in spite of the fact that his salary was ZIP!

Lopez made Lugo redundant, and the idea that Lugo would be the best hitter on the bench is laughable. He has a .671 OPS over his last 1,300 plate appearances. Chone projects him at -15 R150. That's lower than Mather, Craig, Stavinoha, Lopez and even Bryan Anderson. So until LaRue returns he'd in fact be the worst hitter on the bench.

And it seems to be messing his mind up. He was plunked the other nite and went crazy, like the guy did it on purpose.

He screamed [expletive] when he got hit in the hand by one of the hardest throwers in the league. Said he knows he wasn't trying to hit him but that he shouldn't be coming inside like that against a horrible hitting pitcher like himself. I don't really agree with that, but whatever.

Those of you that know my posts know that I'm a Cub AND Card fan

What is wrong with you?

his fragile 3rd world mind

Seriously, what is wrong with you.

edit - now tied for the league lead in HR and slugging .644. Too bad his BA is .286 and this is the end.
