Sony announced that it is bringing high-definition live streaming baseball games to the PlayStation 3 with a new partnership with MLB.TV.

Users who pay either $99.95 for a basic annual subscription and $119.95 for premium service will get to watch streaming games of all Major League Baseball teams on their television. Blackouts, however, may be enforced for local teams, whether home or away, but users can view the games in the MLB.TV archive 90 minutes after the conclusion of the game.

I'm definitely keeping tabs on this. I was leaning towards purchasing a PS3 because I still don't have a Blu Ray player, and this sounds great.

My decision actually may come down to whether or not the Cubs can turn it around. If it looks like they may actually compete in a month or two, that may push me over the edge.

This is so awesome. I got my PS3 hooked up to an old 30-36'' projection tv down here at school and it still looks really good. I can't wait until I move back home from school in 3ish weeks to hook it up to my parents 46'' LCD tv with the HDMI cables.

I love the concept, but my bandwidth here on campus just isn't working for it. Hopefully when I move back home, I'll have better luck (same for the Cubs offense).

It would be nice if this also becomes available for streaming on Blu-Ray players (as is currently available for Netflix and other services). If I could stream it I'd cancel Extra Innings next year and get mlb.tv instead.

This is an excellent new feature. Configuring it is easy and overall the games look great (some blips here and there). If you're outside your favorite teams "blackout zone" I can't recommend this enough. Just make sure your broadband is fast enough to stream HD.

how fast is your connection now?

between this and hulu, one could easily dump directtv and save the $100/month.

As of today it's now available for streaming on my LG Blu-Ray player. It showed up in the list of services available for streaming after a software upgrade. I'm not getting it this year since I already have Extra Innings, but I'll probably make the switch next year.
