I wish we could take Wells out right now, but I don't think there is anybody down there that would do better over the next inning or so besides Marshall or Marmol and that would just be stupid.

Uh, WHy? He's only in the mid-80's in pitches.

He seems to be losing his command just a little. Not all decisions are based on pitch count. It just seems to me that he's running out of gas.

Losing his command "just a little" isn't any reason to take him out when he's been pitching so well. Case in point, he just pitched a scoreless inning that we would have wasted a bullpen arm on if we would have taken him out.

Wells is a very good pitcher, he may not be a career 3.05 ERA guy but mid 3 ERA and double digit wins is something he can definitely do..

I still don't really buy it but I'd like to. I'm not ruling it out, but I didn't think that before the season started so I don't want to change it based on only a few starts.

Hey Lou, why are your righthanded hitting bench guys still playing now that the lefty is out of the game?

I'm not being serious, but since Lou doesn't think Fukudome or Fontentot can play against a left handed pitcher, I'd like to hear is reasoning for letting Baker and Nady hit against the right hander.

Wow, what a feeble inning for the Cubs 3-4-5 hitters. No patience whatsover and three easy outs. Good job guys.

it's a tie game where both offenses are inept... he probably doesn't want to blow through his bench and have no options available if the game goes to extras.

Ted Lilly update in Peoria: In the second, he struck out the leadoff batter, gave up a single, got Ryan Stovall to pop up and picked off the batter at first. Lilly retired the first two batters he faced in the third, then gave up a bloop single before getting a fly ball out to end the inning.

Very Ted Lilly-ish of him

When pitchers run out of gas they tend to walk people and then give up a big hit. He happened to walk the leadoff guy in the 6th. I thought it looked like he was losing it and was simply saying it would be nice to be able to go to the bullpen and have faith in them. Anybody can pitch a scoreless inning. Just because he pitched a scoreless inning doesn't mean anything. Numerical results over a short period of time (1 inning) mean almost nothing compared to what is actually going on in the field. Case in point, Lopez pitched a scoreless inning against the Mets. I love Randy and am glad he pitched well. I just thought he should have come out a little earlier, but I'm glad it worked out (at least for the 6th) and we didn't use another arm.
