right now i'm actually glad i don't live near chicago. bandwagon fans piss me off like you wouldn't believe.

i live near tampa, so i saw it with the lightning in 04, and the rays a couple years ago. just disgusting.

I don't understand this thought process. The idea that you've "earned" it more because you've watched more.

I'm a huge Chicago sports fan, but for (I think) pretty reasonable reasons, I haven't had a lot of Blackhawks interest previously. I've had a casual passing interest...enough to care whether they won or lost, but not enough to watch the games on a regular basis. But (like many in town I suspect, based on TV ratings for Chicago), I followed the playoffs religiously. Why would you begrudge those people?

I'm generalizing, sure. But it hasn't been that long since sports radio guys were practically booed off the mic if they tried to talk Hawks. I know it's not Chicago, but I worked at a small newspaper about 1.5 hours away and got all kinds of flack from the staff if I tried to sneak Blackhawks news into the sports section. And iirc, the Blackhawks were still paying for radio time not that long ago.

That's because the Blackhawks were openly hostile to Chicago sports fans for decades.

Completely fair point.

Watching the coverage of the parade on WGN. 350k people expected, and I think I see 325k tags hanging down from Kane jerseys.

thats why im getting a bolland or seabrook jersey

I'm getting really crabby about this. This city's sports fans weren't just disinterested, they were openly hostile to hockey for years. They should get off my lawn!

and they'll be the first fans to boo antti niemi the first time he has a bad game next season. or wonder why toews isn't scoring 120 points. or why byfluglien isn't on a 40 goal pace.

Cubs fans jump on new players when they don't immediately perform. Hell, everybody was bailing on the Cutler bandwagon after the first game last year. It's about a large, passionate sports market. Not bandwagoning.

i remember being outside of the st pete times forum after the lightning won the cup in game 7 and seeing a group of about 6 or 7 teenage girls walk by..... every single one of them wearing a brand new brad richards jersey. one of them also was holding a fake stanley cup she made out of aluminum foil. die hard fans for sure.

i hate all those people too. the same people who will probably start booing castro soon.

I totally plan on jumping on Niemi. I'm hoping they don't sign him to a big contract.

yeah. i'm obviously fine with going into next season with him as our goalie, but i still don't know what to make out of that guy. even when he's going good, he seems to be flopping around... yet it seems to work a lot.you'd think winning a stanley cup would tell you what kind of goalie you have, but i still don't know.

no matter what happens though, i'll always love him.

it's fine that they exist, i just don't want to be around them.

There are like 5-10 good goalies in the league, and about 2 million butterfly guys who just play the percentages and will put up a save percentage of about .910 in the long run but that will fluctuate wildly over even seemingly large samples. Niemi falls into the latter category.

Because I'm petty. (and heck, if you were watching by the end of the Vancouver series, I'm willing to give you a pass. I'm not sure all these people were)>

I would love to make this parade. I'm watching it from the comfort of Iowa City instead. I also ditched the Ruutu jersey for a Toews. Finally.

i wonder what guys like martin havlat and cam barker are feeling

Cam Barker's planning his day with the Cup. Didn't he play enough games this year?

Havlat is wondering why he sucked so much this year.

He played enough games, but you have to finish with the team too, I think. I'll check.

The Hawks might give him a ring, though.

I know he gets his name on the cup and will get a ring. Not sure if he gets a day with the cup since he didn't play in any playoff games.

yeah, i guess you're right. he played 51. for some reason i thought it was way lower than that.

so is he really going to get a day with the cup? that's pretty funny if it actually goes down like that.

all you have to do is play 41 games in the regular season or 1 game in the finals.

they need to stop interviewing fans. this is brutal.

"umm, i really think the key to the playoffs for the hawks was buhhfooglienn. i cant wait until next season to see what kind of numbers this guy can put up now that he's developed into an elite player."

I have to imagine most guys still playing for another team would refuse to spend that day with it unless they actually were on the ice that day.
