BTW, good old Red Wings fans...I went to a message board to see what they were thinking about the Hawks title

Why? I don't get it man. Your team just won the Stanley Cup, why spend even 5 seconds looking to see what your rival thinks? Their rival fans, of course that's what they're going to do. If the Vikings or Packers won the Super Bowl last year you and Bears fans would be saying how lucky they got or how they won't be as good next year. It's just what happens.

I didn't say we wouldn't say that if the roles are reversed. For me part of the fun of winning a championship is sticking it to our rivals. So yes I feel completely fulfilled going to our rivals board and picking apart the bitter reactions. I've spent years hearing rivals taking my teams fans quotes and laughing at them. Now it's my turn. You enjoy a title your way this is how I enjoy it.

Through the entire playoffs, I've read more of the opposing teams message boards and newspapers than I have any other sites other than this one. I don't post or troll them, but I find reading their depression, (or defiant optimism) after their teams lose to be more fun to read than people freaking out over the Blackhawks when they lose a game or two, or don't play their best game every time out. And it's not just Blackhawks. I do that with every team I follow. Mostly during the playoffs. But also with the Bears during the regular season.

Somehow it's healthier for my psyche.

I always read opposition newspapers online. I don't get the notion that somebody might be wasting 5 seconds of their life to look at that stuff. After the first hour or so of listening, watching and reading about this win, we're all just seeing the same stuff repeated.

But message boards? Ours are bad enough, I don't need to read what some other idiots think of stuff.

I mostly just look at "game threads". I think it's interesting to see the oppositions fan reactions to different events in the game...like penalties...(most of the time they disagree, but sometimes they berate their player for being dumb)...or huge hits like the one on Pronger....or weird moments like that final goal.

Well and there were tons of people in that locker room that normally wouldn't be...family members and such.

finally finished watching the replay of the game. i didn't notice when i watched it live, but holy [expletive] is scott hartnell the biggest diver ever. dives on seabrook's "elbow", dives on keith's "slash". dude was flopping all over the place.

just wanted to point that out, since i knew there was a reason i hated that guy. plus he has a perm.

Yeah, for some reason that was less of a story than the "stolen puck" nonsense.

Watching the coverage of the parade on WGN. 350k people expected, and I think I see 325k tags hanging down from Kane jerseys.

I'm getting really crabby about this. This city's sports fans weren't just disinterested, they were openly hostile to hockey for years. They should get off my lawn!

I'll go with a t-shirt for now. I'll wait on the jersey till I see who survives the offseason. After the SJ series, I was debating between Toews and Niemi. Now...I don't know.

Don't think it'll be Kane though.

I see. So now, you don't want interest. You'd rather hockey be unwatched and unloved the city again?

You don't know a damn thing about Chicago's sports fans.

I want them all to avert their eyes and send tributes to me, the One True Fan.

I believe then, that any time you talk about hockey, you have to refer to yourself as a "die hard Blackhawks fan for the last X years" and then talk about some old timey hockey moment that you were witness to.

right now i'm actually glad i don't live near chicago. bandwagon fans piss me off like you wouldn't believe.

i live near tampa, so i saw it with the lightning in 04, and the rays a couple years ago. just disgusting.

I'm generalizing, sure. But it hasn't been that long since sports radio guys were practically booed off the mic if they tried to talk Hawks. I know it's not Chicago, but I worked at a small newspaper about 1.5 hours away and got all kinds of flack from the staff if I tried to sneak Blackhawks news into the sports section. And iirc, the Blackhawks were still paying for radio time not that long ago.

and they'll be the first fans to boo antti niemi the first time he has a bad game next season. or wonder why toews isn't scoring 120 points. or why byfluglien isn't on a 40 goal pace.

I always thought I'd be above being annoyed by bandwagon fans. But now that there's an actual bandwagon to be jumped on, turns out I'm not. I know I'm being petty and silly, though.

That's because the Blackhawks were openly hostile to Chicago sports fans for decades.
