Does this Papelbon guy have a chance of being a decent reliever?

I wonder what that means for the return date for Lilly. I had the choice of the April 19 and April 20 Mets tickets and chose the 19th, thinking that was a date some were throwing out for Lilly's return.

A chance? Sure. But I wouldn't expect much - his stuff is fringy at best (he tops out in the mid-80s) and toonsterwu was saying he takes a long time to get warmed up in the pen.

John Gaub is your guy if you want a lefty reliever (and Casey Lambert before he had TJS).

If Papelbon makes it, I imagine it'll be as a "jack-of-all-trades" lefty. That said, I think I like Luke Sommer, Dustin Sasser, Ryan Buchter more as possible lefties that could reach the bigs and fill a pen role.

Yes, my feeling too.

Lotta pitches for Jay Jackson to get through 2 (37). Has given up 2 hits (1 solo to Angel Salome) and 1 walk. So far so good for Jeffry Antigua, 2 shutout, 3 K's, 1 bb. Brevard County jumped on Chris Rusin, 4 runs in 4 ip, on 5 h, 1 bb, 3 K's, 1 hbp so far. 2-6 GO/FO. Burke/Lemahieu/Lake with 3 singles so far. Tenn/Miss just under way.

spoke to soon ... checked nate's blog and i see antigua gave up a 2 run shot to danny carroll.

final line for rusin : 4 ip, 7 h, 1 bb, 3 K's, 1 hbp, 5 R's.

I-Cubs getting mowed down by Chuck Lofgren - 9 up ... 9 down.

No runs in 2 games for Daytona? Not exactly a blistering start. B Jax doesn't have a hit yet. For that matter, neither does Lee in Peoria. Antigua pitched fairly well, it looks like though, although Rusin had to have sucked.......Looking forward to seeing these guys get on track, because it's all we have to look forward to this year.

Jackson gave up 3 in 5 innings for Iowa tonight. Struck out 4 and walked 1. Castro is/was 1-5 with an RBI(not sure if it's over or not)

The overall line doesn't look horrid for Jay, but geesh, he struggled early, 37 pitches to get through the first 2 frames, IIRC. He did get off to a slow start last year (it was the 4th game last year, IIRC, when he got on his early season roll). The long balls could be expected for a guy who's going to give up flyballs in the PCL.

Bad outing for Rusin. I was expecting he wouldn't have too many issues with high-A at least.

Daytona has yet to score a run in 2 games, despite boasting Brett Jackson, DJ LeMahieu, Kyler Burke and Josh Vitters as their first 4 hitters.

They did run into a good pitcher last night in Wily Peralta. That said, it's been a disappointing start for the D-Cubs. Here's hoping it's just early season kinks and running into hot pitching.
