Agreed that he wouldn't sign a blockbuster contract. I think he could get back into the sport, but I doubt he would make what he has made so far in baseball (plus with his profile one good year in baseball could earn him a steady stream of money for a while longer).

$10m. Give him 2 years at the minimum of $400k, then a bump in his 3rd and his only and only free agent contract, at 30, would only have to be for $8m to match his MLB money.

Obviously if he shows some more ability in baseball he can make more here, but I'm talking about if he continues to suck. Chicago won't exercise those options.

Would he need to go through the draft?

I don't think so.

brock lesnar signed with the vikings without ever going through the draft, right?

First, I would think he might be a middle-rounder, because nobody is going to waste a #1-3 round pick on him. As Jersey posted, 2 years at the minimum ($400,000) before a chance to earn decent money at 30 years old. Also, don't forget most NFL money isn't guaranteed. Personally, I would think he would need to catch on with a semi-pro or arena football team and impress somebody enough to give him a decent contract. I think he will stick to baseball.

Is Jeff Samardzija the worst pitcher in Chicago Cubs history?

Discuss.

I don't believe so, well, not yet, a name which came to mind:

Danny Jackson

I suspect you're thinking of Andy Pratt, whom the Cubs acquired with Richard Lewis for Juan Cruz and Steve Smyth. He pitched in 4 games for the Cubs in 2004 (1.2 innings) and gave up 4 earned runs (21.60 ERA) on 7 walks (strangely, no hits) with 1 strikeout. In one game at Atlanta (which I was at) he faced 2 batters, both of whom walked, and both of whom then scored off of Farnsworth, which helped turn a 2-1 lead into a 5-2 loss.

That's him, thanks. I knew his last name started with a P and he was the son of a coach.

Specifically, his father (Tom Pratt) is pitching coach for the Daytona Cubs.

I remember at the time of Andy's meltdown against the Braves some of us referred to it as his Prattfall.
