Yahoo: The AP reports that Gilbert Arenas gets 30 days in a halfway house.

Figured it deserved it's own thread. I really wish I could bring 4 unregistered guns into a public place in Washington D.C. and get away with only a month in a halfway house.

why would you wish that

You remember when everyone blamed Roast? They didn't realize he holds grudges and would one day be old enough to own firearms.

No, that was CT that everybody blamed.

I have a hard time accepting this. It has nothing to do with him being a superstar, and everything to do with guns. I just don't understand how he got off with no jail time after bringing four unregistered fire arms into a public arena, and then lying and joking about it. Whatever.

Well the answer to your question has everything to do with him being a superstar.

A sports locker room is not what I'd call a public arena. It's not like he was running with them onto the court. The fact that he's famous both helped and hurt him. If Roast brought 4 guns into a public place there's a good chance that no one would notice or care. Because Arenas is famous people knew and very much cared. He gets a light sentence because, as a public figure, it will be easily recognized if he were to be dumb enough to do it again. As far as the league goes, he's missing an entire year of being paid a lot of money. That sends a pretty straightforward message to other players not to be so dumb.

Sorry but I don't really get the outrage. It seems like the system functioned exactly the way it was supposed to.

That's a very dumb statement. If just about anybody brought those guns into their place of work and let their coworkers know about their presence, whether it was a threatening or joking manner, lots of people would hear about it very quickly.

Fair enough. In that scenario do you think people would call the police? If they thought it was a joke, I really doubt they would. Maybe the employee gets fired but to avoid publicity they probably keep the police out.
