For some strange reason, I personally think we should reacquire Kerry Wood. He would definitely shore up the back end of the bullpen and middle relief. Although, I see this being more likely come June or July, especially if we are in the playoff hunt. KW in an Indians uniform just isn't right.

If they can trade Silva for him, sure.

That would be sweet.

They can't do that. That would be Jim Hendry owning up to two mistakes.

Wasn't the dumping of Bradley (trading for Silva) him owning up to a mistake?

Was not paying Wood $10m/year a mistake? His stats last year were a little better than I thought: 55 IP 4.25 ERA, 99 ERA+, 1.38 whip 20 saves not too bad but hardly worth what he got from Cleveland.

For comparison, Kevin Gregg 68.2 IP 4.72 ERA, 95 ERA+, 1.31 whip 23 saves. This is not to say that Gregg was a good acquisition but that Wood was pretty close for more than twice the price. Wood's k/9 was just over 10 while Gregg's was just over 9.

No, it was a mistake in and of itself.

No, it was compounding a mistake by trying to correct it.

As in two wrongs don't make a right.

Brian Roberts is hurt and the Orioles are looking for a temporary second baseman. Fontenot for someone like Cla Meredith and a prospect? Just spitballin possibilities here.

Trading our starting 2nd basemen for a reliever coming off a 1.50 WHIP season? No thanks. If we're going to trade for a reliever, I'd prefer someone like Luke Gregerson.

Hendry had no option but to try to correct the mistake unless you are one of the posters who think that Bradley could have stayed with the Cubs and everything would work out fine. :pig:

Obviously there was no good way out of the Bradley mess, but essentially getting Byrd plus a throw-away pitcher (Silva) was about the best we could hope for. I think Byrd's 2010 production will run circles around Bradley's 2009 production.

My brother wouldn't shut up yesterday about how he saw on ESPN that the Cubs were looking into trading to get Kerry Wood back. I haven't seen anything regarding such a move, is there any truth to it, or is my brother just being an ignorant idiot again?

There's been media speculation that Kerry would be a great fit.

However, unless Cleveland decides to eat $8M of the $10M, I don't think Hendry would be interested in the move.

Hmm, how much of that salary could Cleveland realistically dump to a team looking to acquire Wood?

I'd love to have him back, though only if the Twins ate some of his contract.

There are rumors that the Twins are looking at Wood with Nathan now hurt.

If Hendry could somehow get the Twins to eat some of Wood's contract he should be voted Executive of All-Time. :D

You completely misunderstood that.

so are you going to argue that his stl stats were skewed by a small amount of time with them when he was great? that's not a good argument either.

he only had 1 bad start with the cards, and he had one great start with boston. the numbers with the cards aren't skewed.

last year he was good with the cards for just as long as he was bad with boston.
