What are the rules of the prospect draft - who are eligible? What is the order?

Thanks

We need details.

To my understanding, anyone minor league eligible is able to be drafted in the prospect draft, but in particular those draftees from this past June that were since added to the player database (like Strasburg). The order is the same as the major league draft.

Sorry, a few more questions.

1) how many rounds?

2) if I have seven minor leaguers, can i only participate in 3 rounds or can I continue to draft even if I have more than 10 minor leagues but must drop to get to 10?

I will be without internet access from late afternoon Friday (19th) until Sunday morning (21st). I will be helping take care of my Dad who just started chemo for stage 4 lung/throat cancer.

1) How ever many rounds are necessary to fill rosters. Probably no more than 5.

2) You can only get up to 10 minor leaguers, as all rosters must be legal.

Good luck...

My mother in law just had a kidney transplant while my brother in law (40 years old) just had quintuple by pass surgery...

Clint,

No worries on this end - just take care of him as best you can.

5 rounds. You can only have 10 minor leaguers at a time and cannot move players to the major league roster. If you are going to be out, one helpful thing is to create a list of picks and submit that.

So if I currently have 7 minor leaguers on my roster I can only participate in three rounds of the draft or can I be involved in all 5 rounds and then drop two minors leaguers immediately after the prospect draft?

Depending on where we are draft wise on Friday I'll forward you a list of players to draft for me while away.

is there an easy way to get a listing of the minor leaguers available? I'd like to do some prep, but couldn't find a good way to determine who was out there.

Thanks!

You can't move players to your major league roster? Even if you have fewer than 10 major leaguers?

My suggestion is to go to a top100 prospects list and do a player search on the league page to see if that player is on a roster.

Aside from what DeShawn suggested, there is also a "new additions" link under the player tab on the home page of Roadkill. From there, you can see what players have been added to the system since the amateur draft. Most are a bunch of nobodies, so it doesn't really take all that long to thumb through the list for stud muffins.

I have to agree with DeShawn about the limit of 5 picks or the inability to place them on the major league team. What is the purpose of these restrictions. In less than a month, we all need to be legal with your rosters anyway, so what's the point? Also, if someone has no minor leaguers left after the previous year promotions, why do they only get to add 5 players to their minor league roster? Are you saying that after 5 rounds, everyone else will just be a free agent and we are free to grab whoever we want to fill out the rest of our minor league teams? I have room for 4 right now, but there might be 7 guys better than my current guys that I'd like to replace. Why do I have to stop once I have 10 players?

My personal opinions on these issues:

1. I think you should be able to promote a player to your major league roster as long as it doesn't put you over the keeper limit of 10. In fact, I already did that myself with Wade Davis before the keeper deadline since he is expected to be a major league starter from the beginning this year anyway and I only had 9 keepers otherwise.

2. I think you should be able to draft even if you have 10 minor leaguers as long as you make up for it by dropping another minor leaguer to stay at the limit of 10.

3. Last year we didn't set a predetermined number of rounds for the prospect draft; it just continued until everybody said they were done drafting. If we're only going to have one prospect draft like we did last year I don't see the need to limit the number of rounds at lower than 10. As Brian mentioned different people are in different situations with respect to how many players they have that are still minor league eligible. In my case I currently have 6 minor leaguers, but a couple of them I wouldn't hesitate to drop if there are any prospects remaining that I like better.

I don't think you should be able to grab more than 10 minor leaguers. I think the spirit of the rules is not to have an illegal lineup. You shouldn't be able to have more than 10 on your MLB lineup nor should you have 10 on your MiLB lineup.

My case as well.

Then I would like to drop two of my minor leaguers now since I know I'll be able to get better ones in the prospect draft.

I don't think anyone is saying we should have more than 10 at any one time. However, I'd like to have 10 even after I promote the guys who make the major league squad. In other words, if Chris Carter ends up winning the 1b job in Oakland, am I now stuck with only 9 minor leaguers, or am I allowed to pick up minor leaguers as free agents to fill the spot? Even our major league teams can be illegal from the date of the draft until the roster is required to be pared down before the season starts.

I was thinking five rounds and then free agency. I am with letting people go over ten if we agree that there will be no trades until you are down to 10 (ie so people don't hoard prospects and then try to trade them to get back to 10). I am ok with promoting to the major league roster although I again am concerned about using the tactic to hoard players, hence the rule.

I'm going to be on the road for portions of tomorrow, then I'll be largely unavailable on Th/Fri as I'll be in Montreal.
