Would have loved to see home-towner Demitra score on home-towner Luongo there to force OT and destroy that place. Would be interesting to see the reception he'd have gotten after the Olympics.

Temporarily hijacking this thread for a Summer Olympics related post rather than starting a new thread. The U.S. women's gymnastic team may get a belated bronze medal for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. That's the year that the Chinese won the bronze with gymnasts that everybody knew were underage but nobody could actually prove. The International Gymnastics Federation is now recommending that the International Olympics Committee strip the Chinese of the bronze. If that happens the U.S. would move up from 4th to 3rd.

Haha, it only took them a year and a half to figure that one out.

A lot longer than that. This is the 2000 Olympics we're talking about, not the 2008 Bejing games.

Oh. I didn't even know they had that age limit back then, and I don't remember hearing about any controversy.

The controversy apparently existed back then, but I think it was just more widely discussed in 2008 since the games were in China. In any event I should have said A year when they used underaged gymnasts rather than THE year.

Ohno sure came off as a whiny little bitch after getting DQd (which I thought was the right call).

didn't see his comments, but if he was DQ'd (and he should have been), then it's ridiculous that the canadian dude who won wasn't DQ'd also. his was way worse

Ohno shouldn't have been DQ'd. His hand was on the guy, but he didn't appear to push him at all. It looked like the guy just lost an edge. I guess if the rules say touching a guy means a DQ, but I'm sure that's not the case.

I gave up on the Canadian/Slovak game last night when it was 2-0. The Slovaks honestly didn't appear to be showing a lot of effort, couldn't break out of their own zone and just looked terrible. I can't believe they came back and almost tied it.

Not so much, IMO. He made his point (canadian judge, he didnt really push the guy, canadian won gold/silver, etc) but he did it with a smile and right away moved on to talking about the next race he was going to be in. I like the way he handled it, personally.

And yeah, if simply having your hand on someone means you get DQ'd, then sure, he deserved it. But the guy who won gold did the same thing, and actually pushed (unlike Ohno), and he didn't get a damn thing. Pretty pathetic.

The race Ohno fell in, he got pushed by someone too, and that guy wasn't DQ'd either. Seems really lame.

Saying that it's a Canadian judge who called it because they're on Canadian soil was a bit too much especially because every time someone else gets DQd or falls and it benefits Ohno he does the whole "well, that's short track" thing. This time he was quick to blame it on the ref because it didn't go his way for once.

Did anyone watch the women's relay final? What the Koreans did to the Chinese wasn't anywhere near as bad as what Ohno did (nobody fell, for one) and they were DQd from a gold medal.

so, why didn't hameline or whatever his name is get dq'd?

I wouldn't have had a problem with Ohno getting DQ'd if there was some consistency. The race he lost out on a medal in, he got pushed much harder than he "pushed" the guy last night, but because his balance was better and he stayed up, the guy didn't get DQ'd when he should have been. Even though Ohno didn't fall, the bump/push certainly cost him a medal. Just a little consistency would be nice, although when you change the head judge because his life is getting threatened, I guess things may be looked at differently.

Ohno got a bronze in that race.
