yeah there is no way i'm watching that video.

at least throw some [expletive] padding around that steel pole.

That pole couldve been made out of cheetos, it wouldnt have mattered

True, but it does seem like an odd place to have exposed steel beams.

Is it crazy to ask if they will cancel that event?

That's a good question. There already were competitors who voiced concerns about the extreme conditions of the track before the events of today. I'm not sure if there's another track available off-site or something.

Not that far to Calgary, which still has its track.

I'm sure they wouldn't do that. I think.

Seems like putting up some kind of plexiglass wall along that side would be enough. Something similar to what they do with hockey rinks. The problem was more about staying in the luge "track" than anything else in my mind.

He flew right off the track, and there are steel tresses all over the place. I don't even know if padding would have helped.

Horrible, horrible, horrible.

yeah, padding wouldn't have done anything. they said he was going 88 when he flew off the course. when you go from 88 mph to a dead stop that quickly, it doesn't matter how soft the surface is.

i just cant believe how terrible the design is. seriously, big metal poles? that should not have happened.

They have to have the roof covering the track because of the bad Vancouver weather.

Poor Canada with a mechanical malfunction with the lighting of the olympic flame.

You don't need to have the poles that close to the track, though. Made the roof a little wider and have the polls sitting 5-10 feet away from the track with a bunch of padding in between. That way you can avoid incidents like this.

I sat there and watched all that stupid crap just to see the malfunction during the lighting of the flame. Nice work Canada.

Nope.

The competition will go ahead as planned today, on that track.

That's kinda [expletive] morbid. I definitely would not want to run that course if I were one of the athletes. Just imagine if someone else were to die today what kind of controversy that would spark.

There are going to be crashes. That's part of racing at the top level, on what is surely considered to be the most difficult course in the world. I don't mind that.

I do mind continuing without some sort of plexiglass extension on the wall by the steel pillars, however.

no discussion of why wayne gretzky looked like he was going to [expletive] his pants last night?

That was when the fourth flame thingy didn't go up. I'm sure there was confusion about what to do.

Well Gretzky and the others did have earpieces, so they weren't hung out to dry. And he wasn't cold because it was 72 degrees inside.

I'm certain there was some confusion and a bit of panic going on behind the scenes there, though.
