What the hell has been going on with him?

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News thinks the Yankees may target free agent Mark DeRosa to fill their vacancy in left field.

ESPN's Buster Olney had a similar idea last week, and that was before the Yanks got rid of Melky Cabrera. DeRosa, 34, hit .250/.319/.433 with 23 homers, 23 doubles and 78 RBI this past season. His ability to play third base would help Alex Rodriguez gain extra rest or find time at DH and he will come with a more reasonable price tag than Matt Holliday or Jason Bay.

There has been some speculation about any number of teams, including the Cubs. I'm curious as to where he ends up.

He's 34 and coming off a fairly significant wrist injury. He wasn't going to be anyone's #1 free-agent signing.

I'd bet the Yankees are floating this to get Damon's demands back in-line with that market.

Yep. My money is on Damon going back to New York. This is the same posturing the Yankees have always done with Pettitte. It's just a matter of time before the two settle in on something they can both agree on.

Damon wants more than any other team can offer and the Yankees don't have to give in to his demands since they are probably the only serious bidders.

It won't surprise me to see DeRosa signing a one year deal to "prove" he's healthy with someone.....

Of course that would make him 35 years old and looking for a decent contract.

From what I've gathered Derosa's recent teams weren't exactly enamored with his infield defense. That and the wrist are hurting his value.

Yeah a lot of the mid tier FAs have to wait for the market to develop before they get their offers. That's how the offseason has gone the last 1-2 years.

I've talked to a few Cards fans, and they speak of him as the second coming (thats what she said). I hope he signs w/ the Cards for a 3 year bloated deal.
